I added some door lock motors to this vehicle. I used two relays and they work fine. The only problem is you cant get out of the truck while the engine is running.( doors programed with ignition lock/unlock) Is there something about the truck from the facotory that im missing(child saftey ect...) Or is there something I need to do diffrently? Never run into this before. Thanks in advance. Brian

Can you draw us a diagram, or at least tell us how you have the relays connected?

How is the door locks being activated and also are they OEM actuators or just aftermarket ones ? You can program out the ignition controlled door locks and if your unit has the speed sense door locks, you can program it for that instead.

Jeff,
This is a 2008 Gmc Serria with no factory ddor locks.. The factory does have them wired for the Onstar to remotely unlock them.. I just used aftermarket acuators to operate the factory doorlock rod. The customer loves the locks but has to turn the ignition off to exit the vehicle.. I have never run into this before. The relays I added are only wired to the acuators. Is this something that is normal for this vehicle? Thanks for your input. Brian

Is there a way to turn this option off?

Yes I can turn the ign. Locks off. Why would that make the doors not open though?

I do not know if that is going to fix your problem, it just seems logical to try and turn that feature off to see if it will work as you want it.

some vehicles just don't automatically unlock the door when you pull on the handle from inside the vehicle.

Man, haven't seen you post since 2003.
It's kinda strange to see an independent door lock system can be controlled by the vehicle. The only thing that can explain it is some sort of safety electro-mechanical device that prevent the latch assembly to be unlock.
im no help but let us know the result.

sounds right, if you have igniton controlled door locks turned on they lock when you turn key on and vehicle doesnt automatically unlock an aftermarket actuator when you pull the handle, i would either turn off ignition locks and/or install a switch to lock and unlock or at least unlock the doors, hell just use a momentary(programming button) switch on the unlock relay so he can hit it when he wants doors unlocked while truck is running
