Yesterday, a coworker (my brotha from anotha mutha) and I were debating over the correct year of a Silverado I was working on.  The label on the side of the door read 07/06.  So I figured it was a 2006. But than he said that if a car was manufactured beyond six months into the year than it becomes the next years model, or a 2007.  In my opinion, if a car was made in November or December, then I would say it was the next years model.  This is what I was told when I first started installing.  Anyone know for sure, I know its a dumb question...huh huh

I always used September of a general cut off date.  When in doubt, look at the owners manual.  More and more "next year" vechicles are being released earlier and earlier in the year!

Same rule I followed too until GM released the 03 (I think) line in February of 02.

The answer is in the VIN. The tenth "vehicle identification number" character tells the model year. 1988 (J), 1989 (K), 1990 (L), 1991 (M), 1992 (N), 1993 (P), 1994 (R), 1995 (S), 1996 (T), 199 7(V), 1998 (W), 1999 (X), 2000 (Y)------2001(1), 2002 (2), 2003 (3), 2004 (4), 2005 (5), 2006 (6), 2007 (7), 2008 (8)...

Woo, so many different replies. Thanx. Never checked the tenth digit of the vin, that's new. But what happens next year, 2010. So that would be the tenth and eleventh digit right?
