2004 bmw lock / unlock wires
I tried to do a remote start on a BMW X3 several months ago and was unsuccessful at getting the locks to work. I am having the same problem on this BMW.
i have blue/red for lock and WHITE/ black for unlock. I have found these wires in the loom coming from the door. I tried pulsing both of them with a ground and no response. Is it possible to test for the wires before connecting it to the remote starter or is it a special length of neg pulse required for lock and unlock
Frustrated with BMW,
Rick

Power Unlock          BROWN / YELLOW          (-)          MODULE BEHIND GLOVEBOX black 54 way connector at cdl
PowerLock          WHITE/ BLACK          (-)          MODULE BEHIND GLOVEBOX black 54 way connector at cdl
This is the information that I have for the X3. There is also an alternative wire colors but same location:
UNLOCK - blue/red
LOCK - yellow/red

Never had any problems with those colours at the location the first post mentioned, that's on E46 left and right hand drive and and X3's.
Except you might find it's WHITE/ black for lock and blue/red for unlock.
You can test easily enough by throwing the lock over on the door then grounding each in turn. Extended lock pulse will close roof (if there) and windows.

Is the door close sensor in the latch or at the hinge side?  There is a lever that goes into the door between top and bottom hinges.  I can't see what it is doing inside door without pulling apart door.  I flipped the latch closed on the door but the wires do not pulse locks when grounded and that is what got me looking at the lever on the hinge side of the door.  It will be difficult to test from the inside with the doors closed.

Built into a microswitch (from RS components about £4=$6, from BMW about £22=$33) attached to the lock rod, on the motor which is built onto the lock mech, wire colour is brown primary, should be the only one in the door entry loom in the kick well. Dome lights come on as soon as the vehicle is unlocked, i.e. before the door is opened, hence no need for dome supervision. Extending the lock pulse will close windows and roof if there.

Does this lock on the factory remote or the key in door?
Also remember a remote start on this vehicle needs a 556U by-pass and you MUST use the grey VALET key.
Did you also notice that you had the lock/unlock wires the wrong way round?
Correction, on my first post when I said "throw the lock" I obviously meant throw the LATCH.

If I understand your question correctly...... There is a locking button on the factory key and it is no where near the car when testing the locks.

Yes I have used the grey vallet key with the bypass, and I will get the car back tomorrow to have another go at it.  I did note the lock/unlock wires were the wrong way round.  If I can't get the lock/unlock to work by grounding them I won't bother connecting them to the remote starter and may have to pass it on to someone else.  The frustrating part is that the remote start is easy but the locks are giving me grief.

First I tripped the door latch and waited for the courtesy light to go out before any testing.
I checked all the wires coming from the drivers door and first found one wire that is always hot. It is red (not sure if there is a stripe on it). All other wires were tested to a ground and had no response with locks. The brown wire with yellow dots turns on the courtesy lights when grounded but does not activate the locks in any way.
I was thinking of taking the door panel off to see what wires are going to the latches. I took off 4 screws from the the top off the panel and there seems to be a lot more holding it on and an air bag that I don't want to screw up.
Any other suggestions?

Am I reading this schematic correctly???

Is there more than one wire that has to be tripped at the same time to activate the locks?

I will include a close up of the lock area.
