2006 chevrolet cobalt stereo

Good day to all. I have done countless stereo installs, however upon searching the info on here in regards to the 06 Cobalt, it seems that there is different info available. Basically all I need to know is if anything "special" is needed? I read on topic that talked about a stereo delete module? I also read about running all new speaker wire to bypass the factory set up. Is that necessary? Thanks for now...........

It doesn't have on Star.... is it absolutely necessary for a bypass kit since from what I've been reading the security goes through the factory head unit?? Thanks

the only thing different is there is no ignition turn on in the factory harness. unless your putting in a Nav radio you'll have to run an accessory wire to the fuse box. if you are putting in a nav radio you'll have to get a specialty harness like the metra xsvi-2103-nav for about $99. the only thing the factory radio has an effect on is what you can control through the radio. in the owners manual there will be a few things you can change like how long the headlights stay on after you lock the doors, etc.

i haven't done many cobalts, maybe just one in fact, but i do know that you really shouldn't run an acc to the fuse box. at least i try to avoid it wherever possible. i tap the acc at the ignition harness and use that ONLY to activate a relay that is ties into a high current 12v constant. its the hardest way but its also the best way because chevys have really garbage electrical systems and the extra current draw from an aftermarket radio could be enough to mess up the onboard computers.

i have an 06 cobalt ss, i have a pioneer head unit and it uses the factory amp under the dash, didn't run new wire. infact just changing the hu made all the speakers sound better, and able to play alittle louder.

When you purchase your harness adapter, make sure it lists the Cobalt.  If my memory serves me correctly,  I think it takes the GM13SR.Do it right the first time
