1prix: Hood pins won't rust if you spray them with a moisture retardant on installation or use the Euro flanged plastic encased, see Metra page 26. Read the thread on this page on pin switches.

Any body use magnetic reed switch in place of a hood pin switch.
If so would i need a normally open type switch.

I've not used them in place of hood pins but they should work great.
It would have to be normally open (N.O.) to work with most alarms and remote starters out there.

i also thought about adding a switch inline on the hood pin wire instead.

Why?
Not needed if you already have a hood pin, also one more thing to go wrong.
