I have a customer interested in a Viper SmartStart and he was told that it would work with his UltraStart remote starter... but everything I can find says that it is only compatible with DEI systems...
Any insight?

Contact UltraStart?
It depends on the connection data protocols, maybe you should ask Fortin or Idatalink!

You need to find the module with analog outputs.   It has provisions to connect to the activation input on any remote start as well as door locks and 1 aux I believe

I know the Compustar Drone has the analog outputs but I can't find anything for the Viper.

Hit up crutchfield and search dsm250, click on details then scroll down half way down the page it says on the right"what's in the box". Click the link to the manual. Page down and you'll see it has analog outputs. I installer beware it has a note that the analog outs have to be enabled In the installation portal

did anybody find the answer to this question? Is SmartStart able to be installed on any system (using the 5-pin cable)?

hey kenny, i tried sending you a PM, but your inbox is full.
Congratulations on the business!
The VSM200 and VSM250 both have a 5pin harness for analogue connections. Make all hardwired connections to the ultrastart and hopefully the bypass is in w2w so you can just send signals to it.
when you activate the smart start, you will then specify during setup online that its for analogue and not data. You have to activate it through directechs, or it wont work.
1) login to directechs.com
2) under resources go to smartstart activation
3) use the password and login provided and activate
4) use their online tester to make sure the vehicle has a good gps signal lock.
