The main reason you didn't get the reply you expected on your post was the simple
fact that there aren't very many installers familiar with the products you mentioned
and fewer yet that answer posts ( many people lurk ).
While I have my doubts, they could be excellent systems even if they aren't real popular
with the average installer. As you are finding out, without installation manuals available
and a source for parts, trying to install and get functioning used items obtained from a
junk yard is a big challenge. It is not impossible but will require you to be very resourceful
in your search for answers. As Howie II pointed out, even a major brand like Viper has
many different remotes that will only function on one specific model. Throw in FCC
certifications and mix-n-match is a time wasting endeavor. I will bet that you might very
well be the first person that has even thought of trying to get a Viper remote FOB to
pair up with a Carbine Plus 3000 brain.
Most professional installers have perspective customers enter their shop from time to
time with items they purchased on their own, looking for assistance with the install.
Please understand that a professional installer is very knowledgeable and might want
to help everyone, but unfortunately time is money. Spending 4 hours searching for a
an installation guide or locating a working remote is way beyond the scope of business.
Then add the problem of "implied warranty" on the install with used items or items of
unknown reliability and most professional installer will try as Howie II did, to steer you
towards a major brand with known quality & reliability. While I'm sure you paid less for
the two used incomplete systems for have, a decent remote start with keyless entry system,
like the Viper 4103LXL with two remotes, is readily available on EBay for the sum of $45.
Ask an install question on that system and see how many complete and well thought-out
replies you get within a few hours.
As you probably guessed, most professional installers have tried many major brands
and chosen one or two that meet their requirements. Namely availability, price, support,
reliability and functionality. The simple fact that no one with experience on those two
brands replied could mean something. Additionally these same professional installers
have removed and replaced many of the lessor quality systems for obvious reasons.
While you might not have liked the answer supplied by Howie II, insulting him might not
be the best course. With over 10,00 posts and many years on the forum, Howie II has seen
many posts from fellow members desperately seeking help with some no name system and
read the follow-up posts when the unit malfunctioned within weeks. Perhaps a terse
"Thank You" and re-iterate the original question, supplying more info, like type of vehicle
and the main purpose of the system ( keyless entry, alarm security, remote start, etc ) would
be more effective. Who knows, there might be a forum member out there that has actually
installed the systems you mentioned, gotten them to work and is willing to copy or post the
manuals and answer any specific questions.
Soldering is fun!
