adding aftermarket alarm to OEM alarm

When you install any system into a vehicles, all your doing is piggybacking wires from the OEM harness to the aftermarket harness. Seeing that nothing is actually cut from the OEM system , the aftermarket and the OEM system can operate together as long as all connections were made properly.Jeff

If it's a DEI product, it is probably the Hornet 700T. I use the Audiovox PRO9232S, which performs in a similar fashion. Anyway, most of the alarm is installed in the usual way. Then the alarm makes three connections to the factory doorlock motor wires: the one that is positive when locking, the one that is positive when unlocking JUST the driver's door, and the one that is positive when unlocking all doors. When the car's doors lock, the aftermarket alarm arms. When ONLY the driver's door unlocks (from using the factory keyless), the aftermarket alarm disarms. If the aftermarket alarm sees ALL doors unlock at the same time, it does NOT disarm, since this is most likely a car theif operating the power lock switch on the car's door panel.

Can anyone let me know how to set up a remote start and alarm off the factory keyless entry. The car is a 2003 honda accord lx 4cyl. Any help woulb be great, the more details the better. Thanx

dusted340, that would be a pretty lousy system, but it would be possible if you really wanted it. The range of the factory remotes is crappy, so your remote start won't work so great. Also, the factory keyless on a Honda doesn't work with the motor running, so you'd have to somehow rewire the car so it would, or otherwise you couldn't disarm the alarm or unlock the doors after you've remote started the car. But all you would have to do is buy an alarm like the Hornet 700T or an Audiovox PRO9232S, and an add-on remote start like a DEI Valet 551T or Audivox AS-9075, and install them both in the same car. quicksilver, The OEM alarm system is not disabled or interfered with in any way. The aftermarket alarm just "watches" what the power locks are doing as I outlined above, and when the right events occur, it arms or disarms.

Thanks for the response, so it looks like an aftermarket system would be better. range is not that important to me , and the factory key has the remote on it and it opens the windows. so I thought it would be simple to do but it sounds involved. I wonder if anyone has done this setup. Anyway thanks for the help

Yeah it is too bad about not being able to everything off the factory remote and still have it work well; that would be pretty cool. There are aftermarket modules that can control your windows off the aftermarket alarm's remote, but they can be time-consuming to install. Try turning your key in the door and holding it; see if this causes the windows to move....if it does, it would be fairly easy to tie the aftermarket remotes into this, with no extra cost and little extra work. Also, check out some of the stuff over at transponderbypass.com. They make products that connect to just one wire in your car, and they control lots of stuff. Try to find out if their piece will do windows too.
