I have a 2001 cavalier manual and I have a Viper 790 alarm, I wanted the remote start put on, but the place I had it installed wouldn't put it on because it's a manual. I have a friend with a manual and he has remote start and his car dosen't start unless the car is out of gear.... What can I do to have my remote start put on my car???????????

Not familiar with the Viper 790XV , but most installer's ( in the US ) will not install a remote starter into a manual vehicle because of liability of damage and personal injury. If you bought the Viper from a authorized dealer, you probably will have a better chance at getting it installed through them.

search is good, try it.  I recommend it.  sometimes you'll find answers to your questions without posting.

-if you know how to hook up a RS on a autotran, then there is the clutch that you need to bypass. (technically, it not the clutch that youre bypassing, its the switch you need to bypass.) hope that explain it.
-if you look behind your clutch pedal, there will be a push-switch. when you press on the pedal, the switch will complete the circuit. thus, bypass the clutch.
-how to bypass? well, use a relay and use the third ignition on your 790xv to activate it.
-manual are pretty much the same as the auto. manual are dangerous to RS when in gear. consider your options.
-good luck, have fun

You can safely hook up the remote start by using the neutral safety bypass made by Peripheral Electronics. http://http://peripheralelectronics.com/2002/security_bypasses.asp

It is at the bottom of the page. I'm pretty sure the way it works is you have to leave the car running (in neutral with the e-brake on) using the turbo timer or pit stop feature of your remote start and then shut it off using the remote start after you close the door. Otherwise the remote start won't work.

i have a 1998 cavalier with a remote start.  its the clifford matrix rs2.  i have the clutch bypassed with the ebrake as a park of the toggle over-ride switch.  it will not start with out the ebrake pulled, and the toggle switch still has to be in the "on" position.  the only thing is, the ebrake can be pulled up only one click to complete the circuit, and thats like zero braking power.  it will launch if left in gear.  even with the ebrake fully pulled the car will hop.  i dont want to know what would happen with a more powerful/higher torque engine.

sroth140....you used the e-brake as a safety feature, but did you also use the neutral safety wire?...or did you hook up the neutral safety wire from the alarm to the ebrake?

most likely he didnt. Like i said most people dont know this wire exists in most cars, and dont think about it. FSMs usually have the info and it usually goes to the ecu. if the ecu can tell when you shift to reverse (reverse lights come on) then it might also be able to tell when you shift to neutral. wish this was a widely known fact. would help a lot of people in deciding whether to get one or not, especially here in kansas where it gets freaking cold in the winter!

i used the e-brake and the toggle switch.  the brake has to be pulled and the switch has to be in the "on" position.  that way if someone parks my car to work on it i can be sure that it wont start with the switch in the off position.

also, i think i have my (-) remote start activation wired up to my clutch bypass.  i was diggin up under there at work today and i think thats what i saw going to it.  its been about 2 and a years since i put it in, i dont remember a lot of it, but after you take care of the whole clutch thing its pretty straight forward from there.
