Does anyone know where I can get a Bose amp for a 97 Pathfinder at a reasonable price?

Ebay is your best bet. Why do you need a bose amp for?

Does it have to be bose?

Well, I have bose two ohms speakers and a bose radio. The amp in there now is a clarion (imitation bose). The problem is that my rear door speakers don't play as loud as the front door speakers. I'm thinking the amp may be bad, so I was hoping to complete the system with a bose amp, but what other options would you guys suggest? I think originally it was a clarion system. Someone put in a bose radio before I bought the pathfinder and I put in four bose speakers (the two tweeters at the front at each side of the windshield are still clarion). I needed to replace all four speakers because the speakers the truck came with were torn. Any suggestions on an amp or on why the back speakers may be playing low? I try to boost the volume on the back using the balance and fader on the radio, but it doesn't help much.

Unless you've heard it different in another vehicle, it would make sense that the designer of that system wanted to make the soundstage in the car proper for the average Mom and Pop who just turn the knob to ON. The rear speakers should be a lower volume than the front, and aftermarket systems are adjusted that way, too. They are referred to as "rear fill".

I heard it sound different in a 2000 pathfinder. Mine is a 97, so I don't know if that makes a difference. In the 2000 all the speakers sounded even. Isn't this the effect bose is supposed to give anyway, a sort of sorround sound effect? If it is designed to be "rear fill" as you say, would that also mean that the balance and fader on the radio would not be able to even out the sound? When I try to even it, it seems to go from the front being higher than the rear to the front being almost off. In order to hear the back I have to almost turn off the front. They don't fade into each other gradually. Is this normal? And would this problem still be there if I get another amp? Is it the amp that determines the rear fill set up you're talking about?

Sorry, I don't have an answer for that, not a Bose repairman. If you just got the car, and it sounded like that when you got it, it may be the way it is supposed to be. If you've heard it sound better, then you know something went wrong. It's a 7-year old car now and the factory system might be at the end of it's life. If you want to try to troubleshoot the problem, you may have some luck by searching the web for a Bose car audio forum. You might find someone who has experienced the same thing.

It would be best to just set aside all the bose and pick up some entry level aftermarket speakers, and a cd player to power them.

I too own a pathfinder, and know for shure that a $500 aftermarket system sounds way better than the bose setup, , , bose is just like nike to the stereo world.

Thanks for all the help guys. Just two more questions. First, what is it exactly that you guys don’t like about bose? What makes it so inferior in your view? One thing that complicates my removing the system is that I don’t want an amp that will be too large or too visible. What would be ideal is if I can put one in the upholstery of the trunk above the left rear wheel, which is where the factory amp is placed in the pathfinder. The problem here would be in finding an amp that would not overheat in this enclosed space. This is why I was hoping to replace the clarion (imitation bose) amp I have now, (which I think may be going bad and causing the rear speakers to play low) with an authentic bose amp. So the second question is do you guys know of a good amp that can replace the factory amp and fit where the factory amp fits. Thanks guys.
