I havn't heard anything from anyone about the plans. I know an installer, but he is not inclined to help me with the entire install. I can get him to help me with most of it though, and I will tell you how it went, maybe pictures too. This won't be soon though, college is really tieing me up.

Ok, so since Jamie isn't posting anything, does anyone else know how to install a magnetic switch or any other typr of safety device that tells a remote starter that the car is in neutral?  I am not talking about "ready-mode" either.  I am talking about a sensor or switch.  Joelr7309 mentioned a magnetic switch and Jamie mentioned the gear lever ring.  ANyone done one of these methods or heard more about them.

A magnetic switch is basically a hood or trunk pin switch. If the switch is in it's closed position, the signal is connected and the starter will work. If the circuit is open, then it is in gear and the starter will not work. I usually do not do this because all the units that we install are manual transmission ready via a jumper or a jumper wire.

Jeff,

Have you ever had any trouble with the Directstart models on manual transmissions.  Has there been any major or minor problems reported to you?  How long have you been selling them

The DirectStart's that I have sold for the past 2 years have had 0 returns . I install about 20 % of them into manuals and they work very well. The only problem that I have ever had on one unit was poor range , but that was taken care of with a new antenna. They have 3 year warranties and great support !  The dealer price is very good and they ship within 24 hours of the order.

Hey Phatmex , KillKrazed and company,

I'll feel better about myself knowing that my sound advice has been taken to heart.  Ask any MECP certified installer what they'd do and the response might reflect my ideas.  The only true safe way to install any r-starter in a manual is to simply use one designed for that purpose.  There are plenty out there.  For example Clifford makes the Solaris.  It's a r-start / alarm combo with many cool features any plenty of goodies that can be added to the serial port to get full use out of the 16 channel remote.  Save the Viper for another car or sell it thru this site at Buy & Sell Equipment . remote start on a manual with a viper alarm?? - Page 3 -- posted image.

Prepare your future. It wasn't the lack of stones that killed the stone age.
