Several ways to do it.

I have heard of a setup comprised of a small elecric motor connected to a set of points and then to a coil..

I have seen bar-b-que ignitors used.

I have seen a Bernz-o-Matic propane torch setup as a pilot flame.

However I dont recommend any of these. I am currently using a setup sold by http://www.gotflames.net   Its only been in use for 2 months now but it works very well. If you do a search on the internet, you will find at least six companies selling these types of spark boxes and flamethrower kits, however, these kits all require that you install one or two coils for it to work. The gotflames kit has an internal coil. I highly recommend it. If you buy one of their kits, tell them Knucklehead Steve sent you. If you want to see close up pix of one of my installations, and a wiring and plumbing diagram, go to http://www.hellonwheelz.com/flamethrower.html .

I am currently testing a new ignition device and contemplating propane injection. Stay tuned.

My 3000 GT has a fully electronic ignition, not counting the crank/cam sensors which rotate with the engine. The spark is controled 100% by electronic signals form the computer. I don't think a computer is needed, but enough electronics to do this with a regular coil. Maybee used parts from other cars with electronic ignitions? The 3KGT, is not the most cost effective car to pick from, try anything else. Most cars today work the same way.

If you're good with digital, you can make an oscillator to create a good pulse frequency. I got an A in all of my digital classes, but I can't remember a thing, sorry.
