I was told today that if I make fiberglass enclosures for my RE XXX 15's that the boxes won't hold up for daily abuse. I asked if that would be the case even if I built the boxes really thick. They said they will crack under that much pressure. Is there any truth to what this guy is saying? Thanks in advance...

Well, what are you supposed to make a box out of? Fiberglass is stronger then wood, so are we supposed to build a box out of aluminum. Who ever told you that is a moron.

that dude is wrong.  if the fiberglass will flex, it might crack, but that means its not strong enuf which means it is not thick enough and it needs another layer or more. Fiberglass + resin make it strong not resin alone but you will need at least 5 layers to make it strong enough

wow, some poeople just amaze me with their whitty knowledge of stuff they have no knowledge of. rangers 100% correct in this instance T.Hill. Who ever said that is probably trying to sound smart or something but in effect has just made a fool of themselves because I have seen 4 RE XXX 12's in fiberglass enclosures before and they sure as heck weren't cracked and they were LOUD as... well.... you have some 15's so u know how loud they get lol.
Look. If you build fiberglass correctly, it'll last forever and be virtually indestructable. If you build it crappy and dont use enough, thats when u get Mr. Know-it-all's trying to tell you stuff like that. Tell him to get bent, and then go make urself a kick ass enclosure.

Thats what I thought. I've never heard anyone on here say that fiberglass wasn't strong enough as long as it was built right and to the right thickness. I think he was trying to discredit all the things I'm doing with my system like the JBL/Crown sub amp and my choice of subs. He of course tried to sway me over to the W7 from my RE's. He said the I could get the same output from 1 13W7 that I'll get from 2 XXX 15's. That's about the same time he let me know all about his crack habit....
Thanks again guys

Oh yeah, those JBL Crown amps really suck. That's why none of the top competitors use them. Oh wait, Gates, Eldridge and Biggs use them. Hmmm. Maybe this guy doesn't know everything after all.

w7's will hit no doubt, but one 13w7 will not hit as hard as 2 15 xxx

They let me sit in a truck that they have 1 12W7 running off a JL 1000/1. It sounded good, but not as good as they hyped it up to be. I just can't bring myself to that much money just because it's says "JL" and everyone thinks its cool. I'll stick with my XXX's and spend the extra money on cd's.

Man, some of these people are just out to make a sell. They try their hardest to sell the most expensive stuff, like perhaps JL audio? lol. Just cuz it costs the most and gets the most hi-profile reviews doesn't make it the best bang for the buck.
