I talked to a guy a circut city today. I guess they lost the alpine contract becasue the two could not agree on pricing.
Ravendarat: Who do you think makes a better HU, alpne or pioneer? Iv'e heard that alpine's are better, but everyone and there mother has a pionner HU, so they must be pretty good.

Pioneer is just cheeper.  Thats what people look for.  When they want quality, usually they know what there looking for, and /////Alpine is on there list.

Hopefully the sales men/women will be properly trained to sell the products atleast.  If there unknowledgable they wont sell much.  Most of the good stuff in alpine products are hidden features only trained people know about.

Pioneer makes some good sh*t.  Good defined as value/features and dependability.  Alpine clearly makes a better product, but you pay for it.  M2C.

As far as I am concerened this all comes down to personal preferance as I do not believe one company has a signifigant advantage over the other. I personally think Pioneer is a better product, mainly because I have used both a pioneer deck and an alpine deck in my truck and the pioneer deck sounded far better. Decks had similar features but the pioneer deck just flat out sounded better. Obviously this is my opinion only but personally I have never really found any alpine product I would consider buying, just dont think their stuff sounds good. I used to be a diehard Alpine fanatic, but since they starting manufacturing them in the USA instead of Japan, the quality of the products have gone down hill. I was buying Alpine stuff since the early 90's up until the late 90's when I started to realize that the newer Alpine stuff wasn't as bulletproof as it used to be. I still have the Alpine HU's in our competition vehicle ( the F1 Status system ) but any of the other HU's that they have I would not purchase becuase of customer complaints with them not performing properly.

As for Pioneer, I have been installing the entry level HU's for about 5 years now and I've had about 4-6 come back due to manufacturer defect. Not too bad considering that we sold about 100 + of these entry level HU's. ** When I refer to entry level I'm talking about the 1400, 1500, 1600 series. Not any of the 3300, 3400 or other's. **

Stavy,

Does this mean possibly that Future Shop might also get access to the Alpine line in the future? Right now we are stuck with JVC and Pioneer as the top end. The best one we have is the DEH-P8MP, which is a decent deck, but i still go to Alpine carriers to get my decks. I'm an alpine guy, so this news is exciting.

No Future Shop has no plans at this time to pick up Alpine as a line. Best Buy USA owning Future Shop actually has had very little influence on the lines that Future Shop carries. Which store do you work at?

I have to agree with ravendarat...i have installed at circuit city for a while and have moved over to best buy...i currently own an alpine and a pioneer deck...the alpine i do not use because it is my opinion that my 9600 is better...to me functionality is about as good as the dva7996 i used to have...but it all boils down to opinion and the fact that both of these companies have whorred themselves out in the past years in order to lower thier prices so that large retail stores like BB and CC would carry them...bottom line is both companies make CRAP that pretty much equal themselves out in drawbacks...yet they both still make good stuff for the price...just my opinion
