Here we go again, here's my 4th enclosure.  In pic 5 you will notice I cut out a section in the rear to apply my mixture of resin/cabosil expander to stiffen up the box from the inside.  The is for my hoopty/beater rear drivers' side corner.   Questions/comments are welcomed!     Another enclosure, pics inside -- posted image.

If you go do a search on some previous posts, search for "cabosil" or even "aerosil".  Its a powder that you mix with resin & hardener.  This makes the resin into a gel like substance that you can use to reinforce enclosures with.  In order words, you can use this to stiffen up an enclosure from the inside rather than adding layers of fiberglass.  You want to at least get about 1/4 inch thick of the mixture to stiffen up the enclosure walls.

I think there was 1 or 2 little spots that weren't perfect, they could have been sanded more.  But I didnt want to spend too much time on this one being it was for my hoopty.

Not too shabby. More body filler or a final layer of high build primer will take care of the pock marks. In the future you probably don't have to cut out the back of your enclosure to stiffen it. You can usually reach in through the woofer opening and do it that way or just pour the mixture in and then rotate the enclosure until you get the coverage you want. It beats having to cut and then repair the cut out.
Aerosil/Cabosil are fumed silica thixotropic powders. Fumed silica is a white powder that is very lightweight and is used as a resin thickening agent. It's sometimes referred to as "resin thick" for this reason. Aerosil and Cabosil are trade names and fumed silica is the generic name. Cabosil is manufactured by Cabot and Aerosil is manufactured by Degussa. And that concludes our lesson on fumed silica.

Right now Im workin on some speaker door pods for my 6 1/2's.  This time, no short cuts, and 100% effort on sanding etc.  So far it's comin out pretty good, Im doin one at a time though.
