I have a problem.  I need to get the most accurate, realistic sounding base possible. I have a sedan and a discriminating ear.  I am not concerned with SPL at all, only SQ.  Oh yeah, and pretty much an unlimited budget.

What kind of setups would you suggest?  Amp, sub enclosure...

I listen to mellow rock and alternative rock.

Let me know

Deck -     Eclipse CD8443 - $475
Speakers - Boston BAZ5 - $1000
Amp -      Alpine MRV-T420 - $400
Car -      1988 PLymouth Colt - $450, it's been rolled!

Boston Pro acoustics for mids and highs  and  either  2 12W7 JLs or  2 Infinity Cappa Perfect 12s , but the boston pros are definitely grade A quality for mids n highs, or MBQuart

Get your hands on the Memphis LVS 15 & you have the best SQ sub that is made in my opinion.  I run one in a sealed enclosure in my 93' Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo & I absolutely love it.  Yes, it is pricey, but compare this sub to any other SQ sub & you will hear the difference.  I did not choose the LVS for the good looks (triple orange powder coated basket).  I chose it for the outstanding sound quality.  If you are looking for extremely deep bass, give this sub a listen & hear for yourself.  If you are looking for great high end speakers I suggest the Multi-Sync component set from Memphis as well.  They sound great.  Let me know if you need to locate an authorized dealer.

This is a post for car audio but... anyways.  I've got a Kappa 10" in a sealed box.  A kenwood amp pushes it (not a good amp but it does the job).  I've herd many other systems but in my opinion for what I spent this was the best subwoofer setup I've ever herd.  The only thing I would upgrade to would be JL (maybe eclipse).  They've been the only subs to standup to the sound quality I want with the power I like.  If I had know about JL when I was first thinking about my system then I would have waited and saved for the JL.  They're not that much more but I got my Kappa for a great deal, so...

I would use Boston Z series components and a focal utopia sub, size is up to you.

LOL.  The typical post a person gets.  But that's cool.  Shows that everything's not equal in everyone's eyes.  I would still go with JL or Infinity.
