Well, my wife blew up the set of PCE 6.5" MB quarts I bought her. I need a set of fronts that will get loud and take abuse from my wife. I was first concerned about getting her a nice pair of fronts but now I jsut want something that can get  loud and can handle her abuse. Thanks  (My wife thinks clipping is something she does to her dogs toenails)

What kinda power were you throwing at those speakers, you may wanna suggest putting an amp on the speakers and then setting the amp so it doesnt matter how loud she turns it, even if she pins the dial she wont blow em. Its amazing how much phsyco-acoustics will take over and if she thinks she has it really loud because the dial says its almost at the top then she will precieve it as loud. Thats just a thought.
double-secret reverse-osmosis speaker-cone-induced high-level interference distortion, Its a killer

not a bad idea. I only had 75x2 running to them, older MTX amp i had laying around. I bet she turned the gains up and the distorion of the MTX amp blew them. I should have never let her see me adjust the gains, if she had no clue they existed she'd have never blown them..

LOL.  Yeah that'll take a speaker out cold.  JBL makes a 125 watt rms 6.5".  Component set I think.  Looks rather mean and can handle the power rather easily.  Yeah glue that gain control down so she can't adjust it anymore.  I need fronts that are indestructible -- posted image.

I don't think anything could have faced that. Quart makes some of the toughest components out there.

There is no such thing as an indestructable speaker. However there is an easy fix for the situation, Take her keys away.
Amping will help but if she still turns the radio up the speakers will still blow, the signal will clip and distort and will just be amplified.

Also - tell her not to touch the bass boost, loudness, eq or anything else. All these things can lead to severe clipping as well.
One thing that might help somewhat - do you have a high pass crossover on those components? A 100hz high pass crossover will greatly improve the power handling of a 6.5" component set.
But even then - in the words of the author at bcae.com - can't find the direct quote but it went something like this - over or under powering rarely blow speakers - idiotic behavior blows speakers.

Make her understand how the system works first. Sort of like learning how to drive or does she use the hood ornament as a crosshair?
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
