I live in the Louisville Ky area and am having a problem with purchasing a remote start/keyless entry. Can anyone give me some info on where to purchase, what brand is recommended, etc. Most everyone I have called want to install and if I tell them I want it over the counter they tell me they donot sell over the counter or give a very high price. I know the retailer makes most of their money on installation, but would like to do this myself. Would appreciate any internet retailers that you recommend also.

 Thanks!

We have found some cheaper ones at Target or Walmart. Might try there.

And tons of free advice. I too highly recommend the Compustar line of remote starters. Consider the upgrade to the 1WAM-S, the 2WAM-S, this way if the vehicle is not within sight you will instantly know on the remote control if the vehicle is started or not and if the doors are locked or unlocked (provided the vehicle has power locks). Not a huge upgrade as far as the  price goes and the install is the same.

Since there's a pimp here, what works best for a 2002 Grand AM and is easy to DIY? (remote start/alarm)

Thanks, Aulan

Again, the compustar is going to fit the bill. The basic 1WAM-AS or the upgrade 2WAM-AS if you require a 2way remote or should you need extended range (stupid stupid range), the 2WFM8000-AS.

I don't see anything wrong helping DIY out...... there will always have folks that will install their own and then you will folk that will have it install professionally.     Lots of folks are getting ripped off buying faultily units on the internet, so it good to be able to buy it from a reliable source.

I understand your worries but I was just helping out another member with a question to where there's a place to purchase a remoet starter/keyless entry. There is no links to eBay auctions & I am not advertising a whole slew of merchandise. I merely gave one price and an answer to his question :

No Blatant Advertising This forum is not free advertising space. Members found violating this policy will be suspended. Posts promoting ebay listings, commercial web sites, etc. will be deleted without notice.

I know you weren't serious about this kgerry, but I just wanted to make sure that other member's know that I'm not trying to pimp all my gear on this site. One answer to one question Where to buy remote start/keyless entry -- posted image.. Later Dude.
