I'm thinking I may stick with the alpine type x subs/comps for now.. If I blow them I'll go with a pair of w7s..i'm wanting more of an a sq sub instead of an spl sub. I'm more into sq than spl. I owned a set of mtx 8k 15s a while back and they were loud but I can't remember the quality of the sound. One reason my system prolly isn't hitting as hard as it should because i'm still running a stock alt with two mrd 1001s and one mrv 540v

If you looking for pure SQ then Eclipse would be the sub of my choice...The W7's tend to sound boomy and muddy not nearly as clean as Eclipse subs.. I have heard both in many different type enclosures and the Eclipse just sound better.

What size of box do you have those X-12's in?     So far the best box i have designed so far was exactly 1 cube before the sub was installed, , i think it comes to .75 cube  once the sub is installed.

There definately designed for very small box's.

JL is overrated and overpriced. The weakest system Ive heard was 2 JL V2 W6 10" subs with a 500 watt JL amp.

JL Audio IS NOT overrated NOR overpriced. Anyone who says different doesn't know the first thing about JL Audio and how they engineer / fabricate their gear. End of story. alpine type x 12s vs w7s vs 9500s - Page 2 -- posted image.

get a sheet of 1" mdf its like $25 , and build a 13"x 13" x 13" , just for testing to see if your like it, ,i can almost guarantee your problem is that your box is to big.

What are the outside dimensions of the box?  Try useing the box size calculator on this site to find out what size your box is now.

paradigm, hate to tell you, but JL is overrated and overpriced. Only exception is the W3. It is a good sub and worth the money. Other than that, no sub is worth that kind of cash. You can get their best sub (W7) and put it up with a sub half its price (Adire Brahma) and they would be nearly the exact same in results. JL = MONEY. Better stuff out their for the money you spend...

Why do you think JL=money? Really think about that statement, coupled with what I said, and you just might figure it out. They are expensive for a reason, and they are great subs to boot. Not overrated at all and well worth the money. Can you get something just as good for half the price? If all you're talking about is sound, either sq or spl, then the answer is yes. Otherwise it's at best a "maybe." Seriously think about it and let me know when you think you have the answer alpine type x 12s vs w7s vs 9500s - Page 2 -- posted image.
