I have a Viper 791XV on my dodge ram. The remote start doesn't every work. It will attempt a start up and then just doesn't do anything, and will try and a few more times, but it will just never turn all the way over. As well, when I go to lock/unlock my truck, I hit the button, it does the function and  then beeps back at me like its not getting feedback from the truck saying it is locked. As well, when I do something, lets say, unlock the doors, the remote might still show locked doors. Or, if I attempt to start the truck via remote start, it will show that the truck is running when it never has. Until I take the battery out and reset it. I am thinking it must be the remote or ant. Do you have any ideas? Can you help me please?

When was the install done?

If all the functions did work when it was originaly installed it could be the remote.

Other causes could be loose wiring, loose connections etc...

It was installed 8 or 10 months ago

Try a new battery in the remote first

Check the antenna connection inside the vehicle

If that doesn't work try a new remote. You can find them on e-bay for about 70.00usd.

If you have a buddy with the same system(any viper transponder) try programming their remote into your car and see if it works. If it does you know you'll need a new one.

If you don't have the 791xv install instrucions I have on .PDF and can send to you.

Almost forgot-

If the starter is trying and then stops you can check the shutdown diagnostics per the manual.

Let me know if you need it.

1) Remote has issues. Not unheard of at all with the Viper 2ways. I have seen several exibit the same symptoms... usually bad solder joints in the remote itself- replace.
2) Check the grounds. Also, where didtheygo for tach? Try a different tach source, relearn, etc.
I am assuming this is an older (pre 2002) truck with no immobilizer.

It is a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 318. I believe they used the wire that is black and white or gray and black, I will have to check into it. A buddy of mine who is the installer at the car audio store, did it for me after hours, it looks like SH*T, like it could be a fire hazard, however, I checked all the wires and they are all connected right, I am about to go outside and check the remotes, for some good reason, I bought a 2nd remote and never used it, so I will try it right now. If you have anymore ideas or suggestions, please post, as well, please tell me if you know what wire i should tach it to! Thanks!

Tach should be either BLACK/ grey or grey with black over at either the coil on the front passenger side of the block, or at the TCM mounted to the passenger firewall.
