Hello everyone... I bought a remote starter for my wife's 2000 Cavalier 2 weeks ago (Prostart CT-3300) I have hooked it all up but when I go to start it. It cranks.... starts....but as it starts, it dies out. Module tries 3 times and thats all she wrote. I've gone over the wiring a couple of times everything seems to be correct. I've read some other posts from back in Nov. But he never said what fixed it or if they ever got them fixed. I've reset the module a couple of times, reprogrammed the remote & tach. Still every time it starts it dies. I've tried tach wire pur/wht at the coil & neg side of injector #4. Still the same. Perhaps I'm missing or using a wrong colored wire. Has anybody installed a CT-3300 Prostart on a  2000 Cavalier? If so could you tell me what wires you used from the Remote Starter to the Car.

Thanks...

Did you use a bypass for the ignition anti-theft system? Your vehicle is equipped with the passlock 2 system which needs to be bypassed for the remote start to work.

I'm all most positive it dosen't have anti-theft... We have a spare key which is just a plain jane steel key and the car runs fine with that.

With the passlock 2 you can still use a plain key. The system is built into the ignition switch there is no chip on the key. I just did a 1999 and a 2000 Cavalier both needed a bypass.

You need the PLXR or GMBP module for this vehicle. Passlock II wires are located in the ignition harness.

i'd love to hear what you end up finding.  I've got a similar problem with a 2001 grandam.

Massie72 if you didn't bypass the Passlock system that is your problem. Punster seemed to think that his car diden't have Passlock, but it absolutely definately positively without exception has Passlock ll, as does your Grand Am.

Hi Craig

Thanks for your response.  I did bypass the passlock 2, first with a 555l from boa then with resistor hard wired to perminantly bypass it.  If the vehicle sits over night it will start with the remote but then shuts off after about 5 secs of running, then starts up on its own and shuts off, then again.  After the third time it quits trying and will do it three more times if attempted with remote.  If you start it with the key then shut it down after about 3 to 5 secs and then remote start it, the vehicle works fine.  I've left the vehicle sit for about 5hrs and it works normally, but over night it won't work properly.  Have you ever seen this.  165b boa remote start, with passlock 2 permanently bypassed.

  • Massie, the best way to find out if its a remote problem or a bypass problem is, start the car with the key, cut the data wire (yellow in Passlock harness) the security light will come on. Leave this wire cut and shut the car off with the key. Try and remote start the car now. If this works then the problem is with your Passlock bypass.
  •     If this don't work then the problem is with your r/s.
  • Which wire is the tach wire hooked to?
  •  Did you do the tach learn process, and did the module flash that it had learned the tach signal?
  •  How many times do the lights flash when the car shuts down?

I'm not using the tach line in this case, it knows when to stop cranking by voltage sense.  And I've got the passlock bypassed permanantly with a resistor inline with the bcm side of the yellow wire your talking about.  I do not have the parking lights hooked either.  Definitly appreciate any help you can give me.
