Prostart CT3300 security light prob- GM

I installed a prostart CT3300 in my 2000 grand am. Most times it works fine then occasionally it will not start by remote and the security light flashes. I wait for the light to stop flashing (about 10 minutes) and it will start by key. Other times when I start the car by remote the security light will come on (steady, not flashing) later while driving. THis will not happen if I start with the key. I don't understand this because I thought that the starter and bypass modules were no longer being used once you put the key in the ignition and drive the car. ???? I have gone over the connections, they are all soldered. I assume they are all connected to the right wire because it works most times. I have replaced the diode that isolates the bypass module. I have varied the resistance on the bypass module slightly, up and down, same problem. I have tested the ground with a multi meter, there is less than a milli volt between the body and the starter module ground. I would like to rule out all possibilities before I have to buy a new bypass or starter module. Please help!!

Dont buy a bypass kit for those passloc just use the proper resistor and install between the black and yellow (car side). Passloc is overided 4 ever. Leave the key side of the yellow with no connection isolate with tape.
By The way thieves are not Stupid as soon as they see a car starter antenna they know that it's easy to ground the bypass unit to steal the car.
So try my trick and never be stuck again and as a bonus ask for a refund of the defective bypass unit.

Ummm... yeah.... permanent bypass.... seen that done. Not the best idea.

lokeefe - I just started having the exact same issue with mine on my 2000 GMC Sierra.  I haven't looked into it yet but I'm guessing a defective bypass module.  I been though one already when I installed the unit.  I bought mine at Canadian tire and they sold me this crappy dip switched bypass module.  This will be my second one replaced but I think this time I will skip this and use the relay and resistor route or does anyone recommend a auto sensing unit I can use?  I saw Wal-Mart sells the bull dog auto sensing ones for cheap are they worth it????  sorry if I hijacked the thread

It's the bypass module. Had this happen to a customer's vehicle and replaced the bypass module ( a resistor based one ) with a databus module and ever since then the customer's been happy. Use the GMBP for the Pontiac and it will work fine.

I used a PATSK-350 for GM passlock I and II and Passkey VATS. Its a dip switch resistor based module. I'd like to try resetting something before I give up on it....I read that you can leave the ignition in the on position for 20 minutes to reset the cars security module. Any idea if that is true?

OK......I tried a couple of things last night before I posted that message. I disconnected the bypass, checked wiring etc and it worked for me about 7 - 8 times last night. Just tried it this morning and the same problem again, security light is flashing and won't start.

I have definetly thought about just going with the resistor. Are there any problems with that besides lack of security? I agree with you about the thieves....the bypass module is accessable anyhow.....I'm sure they could get around it.

Yes, that is true. Make sure that all accessories are off when you do this otherwise it will drain your battery.

Have you ever seen this solve a problem? Or should I just replace the bypass?

Replacing the module with a databus module will solve the problem. The resistor based modules for certain vehicles just don't work as well. Having the databus modules will comminucate with the Passlock system without cutting Passlock wires and also learns the code without having to worry about climate changes.
