I am looking at buying my alpine sub here. Has anyone dealt with them before? Good/bad experience? They offer free shipping on an item which is usually $40 to ship. thanks

They said they have a warranty. If the box is unopened, it has the factory warranty. Anyone else?

You're kidding, right?  If the box is unopened, how do you know if you NEED a warranty?  Depending on the manufacturer it depends on where you bought the "box" since it is the retailer who also serves as the service center.

These people buy product from retailers who violate the part of the dealer agreement that prohibits " transhipping " to non-authorized dealers. If you have a warranty repair the on-line place who you bought it from has to ship it back to the dealer THEY bought if from ( assuming they are still around ) who then ships it to Alpine. Pretty lengthy and risky IMO. Go to your local authorized Alpine dealer and give him a chance to match the price. Even if he comes close, you get somebody who will take care of any problems you might have.

Also check your state laws, florida has a statute if a warranty is offered on a product and a manufacturer refuses to acknowledge this like in the case of a unauthorized reseller, the Attorney general will send a nice little lawsuite to the manufacturer.

My reseller has used this Florida has used the florida Attorney General for this many times in suing companies that dont honor the warranty

So just remember check your state laws on warrantys you may have more options than you think

How is the manufacturer responsible for a warranty given by a non-authorized dealer??? Also, almost every manufacturer's warranty has a clause that states that if its not installed by a professional, warranty is void, so almost anything you buy online and/or install yourself has no warranty. (Unless of course you are a professional and not just think you are.)

Thats why many states have their own laws regarding on how a warranty must be handled,  for example my kenwood manual  states "This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state."

Basicly manufacturers have abused the little clauses in thier warranties like not installed by a professional , and people got fed up and started complaing to their state officals thus is why these laws exsits, its good to have these consumer protection laws cause without them the manufacturers can just push you around
