i work up here in canada and i'm pretty sure that the crime here isn't as bad as say new york we have the highest car theft per-capita in canada.......lucky us. where i work is not in the downtown location but it's not in the "best" area, although is there such a thing anymore? anyways i have the best in security on my car (as good as you can get without going to prison) and so do the guys i work with, this past saturday morning i went to work to find a car that was parked on the street as if the owner had parked it there(parked straight on the street not sideways on the curb) it was a dodge neon, everything looked fine exept it had a blown out tire.....big deal right?.....well it had no bumper in the rear, missing pass-rear glass and the entire steering shroud, well i called it into the police and they picked the car up 2 hours later......my point is this....when i looked at the car and saw the inside all smashed and papers thrown around why did this NOT have security, it could have been as little as a l.e.d. or as creative as a 2way alarm, but now the owner has to deal with insurance, getting to work and back, and the invaision that the person(s) has now left in the back of their mind. lesson learned i guess.....buy a $12.00 steering wheels club, or an immobilizer either way these people need to protect there investments......even if it is a dodge neon!(joking! i love the srt-4)
sweet.

It was a neon, the owner couldn't afford an alarm. Just kidding.
Some people just think that it won't happen to them. There really is no point preaching to people that don't care. I live in AZ which was #1 in auto theft in the US for the previous 3 years, this year it is #3.

I agree. The FIRST accessory added to any car should be an alarm. When I sold stereo's at best buy, I'd say at least one person every day would come looking for a new stereo and and say that they needed a new one because their's just got stolen. I'd ask them if they had an alarm. 9 times out of 10 the responce is "Nah, I don't need that sh*t." Then they walk out of the store with a 300 dollar deck. If I wanted to push the alarm I would have, but people this stupid almost deserve to have their cars vandalized.
Of course I saw the other side too. Shady looking guys would walk in with a radio and ask for the wiring harness that plugs into the deck. When will thieves learn to cut the harness out of the car when they are stealing the stereo! come on!
I don't even think Pittsburgh PA is a high crime area.

a good crook will get what they want no matter what you have. most people don't even pay attention to alarms when they go off. how many times have anyone of you guy's heard an alarm and not payed a bit of attention? I have and not gave it a second thought. Not that I ment to, I just didn't. And so do lots of others.

To all those driver's in Provinces or states that have private insurance................. get some sort of security/immobilizer system !! I live in a province that still have public insurance so my isnurance doesn't go up if my car gets stolen or vandalized, but that's not the point. The point is it's still a violation to me and I don't like my possessions  to be violated another stolen car -- posted image. The cost of an immobilizer or pager system is far cheaper than the insurance premiums paid on a theft or vandalism.

A pitbull and a 12 gauge works better than any alarm. Haha, JK, But really though, I have one of the most expensive alarms out there and I really don't expect it to do much good. People will WATCH someone steal your car and then go on about their business. If they want it bad enough, its theirs, not much you can do about it, unfortunatly.

Get an alarm with a pager. Most of the time the car thief
will set off the alarm for a few seconds, before disarming it. This will generally set off your pager, and allow you time to load your .45. Other than that, there are many ways to protect you investment, from perimeter sensors, to multiple kill switches, back up battery, and etc. The cost of your investment will probably determine the price you are willing to put into your security system. I will agree that most customers don't hesistate on spending $2000.00 on an audio system, and fail to dish out any money for a security system. To those, tough luck, or should I say good luck.

Thats why you got to love comperhensive Insurance with non stock equipment coverage, its worth the extra 400 bucks a year without any deductible

A good investment for anyone with over 400 dollars in gear in thier car
