I accidently came across this topic while looking for a radio relay setup, I actually joined the forum just to respond to this post.  The setup in my F250 is a great workaround IF you have the room for a second monitor, its really nice to plot a trip out AND have DVD on a separate monitor.  But if you drive a small car this may not be feasible...   Alot of people are using the backup camera mod, have you seen the specifics on it ?

I love how people try and justify watching video while driving by using stupid examples of other unsafe practices. It only proves ignorance runs deep across the land. What pisses me off is the Government making drugs illegal. I don't need someone telling someone else it is wrong to sell my 10 year old daughter "X". I think most drug dealers have the good sense to not sell to kids. Anyone see how stupid that sounds? I hope so. Now I could have used the speeding or DUI examples, but it really cool to do both of those so why bother with it.
Now, as for auex being attacked for taking the right stance and pushing his "ignorance". Ignorance lies in the one that would place in a public forum how to bypass a SAFETY LOCKOUT. Also ignorance is best displayed when examples such as "detours" and "traffic" are used for bypassing a SAFETY LOCKOUT. I am sure anyone who can read would know that you can reroute on the move for just such situations without bypassing said SAFETY LOCKOUT. Now auex may not be privey to such info, but if I want the technician code it is one (1) phone call away for me, and yes there really is one. But why add to the number of idiots out there driving while watching a movie(and yes I was one of those idiots until recently).
If you feel it is best to drive while viewing a video I would take these precations. 1) have a great atty. on speed dial 2) have a great insurance policy and be willing to lose everything you own if it comes down to it 3) be man/woman enough not to sue the manufacturer or Audio shop that installs your stuff and 4) have a will made out so when you go left of center into a tree or phone pole your family doesn't have to suffer your ignorance their whole life.
BTW, enjoy this little read. You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser, but it will be worth the effort:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5529317/
And one more point. If you really want this for navi on the go, buy the damn CD-VC1(voice control). It will control the navi while you drive without bypassing anything. Just a thought.

I take more crap then this daily, this is nothing. Oh, and IPODs are still stupid. hehehe.
Also I don't mean to be rude but if the "code" does pop up in this forum then you better be quick because I am fairly certain that it will be deleted within an hour.

Good job fellas. Keep on keepin on.

Again, "See Sig"....no value.

Ignorance.... that is an interesting word. I think you mean stupid, but I am not sure. Ignorance is thinking that a comapany can put out a product and not ALSO think that the SAME company will put out a code that disables a feature that might hurt sales.

Thanks for the concern.

Don't talk about ignorance, it is hypocritical in this thread.
RVcamperman, not to be rude but proof? Also the examples you have listed as driving distractions, while just, are not that good. A women putting on lipstick, takes a minute or 2 and can be done at a red light. Smoking, rarely a distraction unless the cherry flies back in the car. Coffee, if you are stupid enough to be messing with hot coffee while driving then you deserve to get burnt. This is a good case for pioneer on the other hand( case in point is mcdonalds getting sued because women got burned). Food, well everyone does it but shouldn't. IMO cell phones are worse then anything you listed. So basicaly yes, video indash is alot more distracting then anything you listed.

It isn't your life I am worried about, also see Darwin please.
While you guys are asking for codes, can you ask for radio unlock codes too. I just want to help thieves.

Darwin comment aside, (though I do think it applies here) this thread and others like it have gone on way too long. It's stupid guys! Regardless of whatever excuse you come up with, its just plain stupid. You might as well play your Sony PSP while driving. If you want navigation, you bought the wrong unit. Either get the voice unit or get a stand alone GPS unit. Why have a 7" screen in a motor home anyway?

Rvcamperman,

Can you tell us what the seller's name was on ebay?  Now for everyone that thinks bypassing this safety to watch video while driving is wrong, I completely agree with you.  I personally would not like this bypassed for that reason but mainly so that my wife (or other passenger) can make changes on the Navigation.  I am not going to say that I will never do changes to the Navi while driving because I would probably be lying.  I also think that the driver making changes to the Navi is wrong, stupid and against the law but most of us have done lots of wrong , stupid and unlawful things in our times.  I agree with Rvcamperman when he said that if Auex had the service code, he too would bypass this safety feature.  Like I said before, I will never try to display video up front while the vehicle is in motion and do not intend to bypass so that I can mess with the Navi but I would like to have the Navi options usable for my front seat passenger.  Think what you want to think, but like Rvcamperman said, "if you could do it, you would."

Hey Jaz, just for the record, none of my previous post was directed at you. And the use of the word "ignorance" does not mean stupid. It means "lacking education or knowledge, not aware". Stupid means "slow in apprehension or understanding". Auex was accused of forcing his "ignorance" on other people, when the fact is he is very well versed in the knowledge and very aware of the effects of a distracted driver. Anyone who thinks it is safe to bypass the safety lockout is stupid by Webster's definition. By definition Cali is not one of the stupid ones because he at least ackowledges it in unsafe.
Cali, while I appreciate your post and all, there is one thing that is wrong. I can get the code, so the "if you could do it, you would" theory doesn't always apply. I have made a personal choice to support Pioneer this year and not bypass it. I am trying to explain to my dealer base that you do not need to jeopardize lives to still use the AVIC-N2 to its fullest potential. Also Cali, the voice control unit works very well if your primary concern is navi and not video. That way if the family is snoozed out and you need to change your destination to the world's largest ball of yarn, you can voice prompt it to do so and not have the grumpy wife trying to jam her fingers through your AVIC because you just woke her up to see some damn ball of yarn.
Another note to keep in mind. Anyone that bypasses the unit with any internal mods or codes in basically voiding their warranty. It is something to keep in mind when making the decision to do so. A $2,000.00 unit seems like something you would want to keep the warranty on IMO.
