The local shop is selling the older alpie type r 12s in the ported alpine boxes for only $119. I might pick one up but I need some ideas on cheap but good amps because I don't have very much money to spend on car audio right now. Btw, it comes with a 4 ohm DVC version of the type R so I will need a mono amp.

Concept CA525M amp is what I used on the last one and wow man. The next amp I used was the new Scosche EFX amp and it layed the smackdown as well. Definitely worth looking into.

Like around $150 at most. 12'' Alpine Type R in loaded box -- posted image.

If I do buy it it anyways... I don't know if there is an amp that puts out 400 watts continuous for that little amount of money. I saw an Infinity Reference amp on sounddomain.com that was rated for 300 watts continuous at 2 ohms. Anyone have any experience with these amps? Any other suggestions.

I would stay away from the infinity amps. I haven't heard and good coments on them at all. Why not just look on E-Bay? I just bought a MTX refurbished 801D Sealed in the box right from MTX for $160 and the Test sheet showed 582 watts max at 2ohm at 12v. The Damn thing pounds like hell. Here is a link to one that I just found and from a reputable seller to boot.

BTW: I bought the 801 that I have from these guy's. Good customer service.

Alpine has a small mono amp that does a decent job at powering a single type R.  I believe the model is MRD-M350.  It is 350-400w RMS and retails for $199.  You could probably find it used for under $150 though.

The new MRD-M605 is $215 on flea bay, same price as the M350 .  No worries about their quality going down hill, my brother bought the new M605 and its still an amazeing amp.

my brother has a type r 12 and has a rockford fosgate on it. i think it's 400 rms and it hits hard, but doesn't extend the sub all the way which would prevent you from damaging it.

I just connected it to a home reciever to listen to for now and it sounds great! It got pretty loud too even though the amp's output is only around 100 watts a channel or so.

Racer 427, where have you heard bad things about the Infinity amps? All I've heard about them is good. I actually might buy the MRD-M305, but the Infinity amp is only $134 on sounddomain.com.
