Earlier this evening at the gym I got into a conversation with fellow who works at a local shop. He eventually ended up going off about a system that burped over 160 dB.

His setup consisted of three Fosgate p2's (or what ever the "best" ones are) in a 3 cu. ft. box with a "1 cu. ft." port. The subs were being powered by a Fosgate 3000bd. His electrical system consisted of a dual alternator setup, three batteries and a 100 farad cap or caps or some bs. He even goes so far to say that the Lincoln Gator was not reinforced.

Is he full of it or what? I wanna hear from you die hard spl junkies as I have minimal knwoledge in the spl arena. Shouldn't a wall with multiple amps be more likely to be in the 160 range?

I think he's full of you know what. At 160db his wind screen would blow out with out reinforcement. amoung other things.

That was one of my questions to him, what kind of mic?
His response was, "whatever mic was at the shop"
It is unbelievable that people lie about stuff like this, he is supposed to be representing a local shop and putting out a good image for them, not slander about bs stories.
oh and I forgot to mention that according to him, Fosgate amps use the "larger 24 something MOSFET chips, where everyone else uses the smaller ones, thus the amps put out much more power..."

He is full of shhh. Anyone who measures ports in cubic feet is a moron.
Is it possible, yes. If he was the installer who did it he should know a whole hell of alot more about the install and would know better then to measure a port with cubic feet.

well he claimed an ex-architect designed the box. At this point I think the next time I run into him, I am gonna call him on it.

Call him on the architect as well. While he would desing a good structural box, I would think an EE would be able to design a better sounding or louder box.

wow.    I love it when people tend to run off thier mouth about how loud thier system is, and that they hit a 186db at the show they went to.   It just makes me laugh, I normally invite them to come to our next car audio show, or feel free to come along with us to our next show we travel to.
I have had a few travel with us, and when they get there they always seem to be amazed at the cars hitting 140-150db and say it the loudest thing they have ever heard.....
All scores I talk about are on the Term lab or B&K meter's
It just makes me wonder what they would do, if they were given the chance to see the vehicles I do at world Finals every year for USACi    The ones where a single burm will make a girls hair stand on end while outside the vehicle,    The cars and trucks that no one gets into without a huge airport traffic director style earmuff's.
Some times you never know with these darn kids now a days, granted Im 23 but I have been forced to learn alot.
Next thing you Know Super Blue's will be coming back
