objective: install a 12" sub

question: what is the best way to get the signal from the head unit?

on other cars [2000 and older] i just got a RCA converter that takes the rear input and converts it into a RCA plug, run that to the amp and done.  can this be done the same way?

Yes use a good brand converter (cheaper brands have noise on the line most of the time - no pyle, pyramid, etc).   I'm not too familiar with the hu in the altima 2.5S but I don't think it has RCA outputs.  Line driver to boost the signal would also bee a very good option.

this may sound like a noob, but which wire would i connect to the factory harness for the amp turnon lead? i usually connect it to the power ant wire but with that way, the amp only comes on when the radio [am/fm] is on. when i turn on the CD mode, it turns the amp off. on the altima, there is another wire for a amp out [im assuming] lead. but before i hook it up, i was thinking, if i connect it to that, would that mean the amp would only come on in cd mode? or should i run 2 wires for the amp turnon lead input on the amp? thanks

You can connect the amp turn on lean to any accessory (ignition/turn on) wire you find behind the dash, even the one the stereo is using.  You don't need a dedicated amp turn on, just one that turns on with the car.

i was thinking to conenct it to the 12v ign so it would come on when the car is turned on. the reason i hesitate is i dont know what voltage the remote wire needs so i didnt want to plug into 12v and fry it
