Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading, I am installing a Black Widow (BW1650) alarm/starter/keyless entry  combo.  I got the keyless entry and alarm to work, but I'm having problems with the starter, I hooked up a relay like this:

Cut the starter wire in half, then plug the key side of the wire into pin 30, jump a wire from 30 to 85, plug the engine side of the starter wire into 87a along with the alarm unit's starter output wire, then plug the alarm unit's armed output wire into 86.

I got the above instructions from off a how-to article.

I did this and it scared the crap out of me cause I couldn't start my car! But luckily, it was just a blown ingition fuse.

The instructions from the alarm says to do this:

orange armed output to 86, keyside starter wire to 87a, engine side starter wire and alarm units starter wire to 30, then alarm ingition output to 85.

I don't know which is the right one, and I don't want to mess anything up again.

Also, it said to plug the ingition input and output wire to the main ingition wire.  I was told to cut the ignition wire in half, then wire the input to the key side, and output to the engine side.  What do I do?

Actually, I'll just list all the wires that I'm having problems with from the alarm, maybe someone can help me.  Oh and don't worry about the transponder part, I can handle that.

1. Orange wire(thick wire) - Main ignition output

2. Violet Wire(thick wire) - Starter output

the rest are thin wires

3. yellow wire - +12v ignitoin input

4. violet wire - positive door trigger (+)

5. green wire - negative door trigger (-)

6. orange wire - armed output (-) (for starter kill)

7.white wire - parking light output (+/-)

I know this is a big bundle of questions, but if you could help me with a little section, that would be fine, thanks!

Do this one : orange armed output to 86, keyside starter wire to 87a, engine side starter wire and alarm units starter wire to 30, then alarm ingition output to 85.

Also, it said to plug the ingition input and output wire to the main ingition wire.  I was told to cut the ignition wire in half, then wire the input to the key side, and output to the engine side.  What do I do?

  • Do exactly as it says.... cut the primary ignition wire in half and attach the appropriate wires to the input and output wires from the alarm.

1. Orange wire(thick wire) - Main ignition output BLACK / YELLOW

2. Violet Wire(thick wire) - Starter output BLACK/ white

the rest are thin wires

3. yellow wire - +12v ignitoin input BLACK / YELLOW

4. violet wire - positive door trigger (+) NOT USED

5. green wire - negative door trigger (-) The drivers door trigger is green, front passenger door trigger is lt. GREEN/ red, and the rear door trigger is GREEN / WHITE.

6. orange wire - armed output (-) (for starter kill)

7.white wire - parking light output (+/-) PARKING LIGHTS (+) RED / black  found at the back of the fusebox

&  PARKING LIGHTS (-) blue  found at the factory alarm plug ( factory alarm plug is a green plug above the drivers kick panel )

What kind of clips should I use?  Butt connectors, quick splicers, t clips?  Also, what does hopping a wire from 30 to 85 do?  Thanks a lot for your help!  I appreciate it!

your starter wire should be connected to relay like this pin 85 negative output from alarm pin 86 ignition one wire pin 30 motor side of remote start wire,. and pin 87a  key side of remote start wire pin 87 not used tap the starter wire from alarm for remote start to the motor side wire connected to pin 30 of relay so that starter kill relay will not be in affect when remote starting.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

SOLDER all connections. DO NOT use T-Taps or butt connectors. These types of connectors will fail on you at the worst possible moment and can also damage delicate electronic equipment in the car.

The hardest thing about all this is the room that is presented for me to work with.  How am I supposed to solder everything without ruining everything?  What kind of solder should I use?

Hey David, we professional installers do the solder all the time. It takes time and patience to solder properly and also use a thinner coil solder so it melts faster and easier onto the conenctions. Try to find a lead resin core solder about 16 gauge and this should be good for what you want. For the starter kill use this fiagram to help you: Normally Closed Starter Kill Relay and attach the starter wire from the RS unit to the pin 30 on the relay.
