Hey all,
Was wandering on how you guys (with sub BOXES) secure it from the event of a crash. Ive heard thoughs things go the rear seats like chillies from hell.
I got my box mounted in the centre of my car tied up with climbing rope. It *might* work, i don't wanna test it.
I need to access under the carpets n all to get hold of the wheel removal tools ( i do a fare few miles at weird timeS ) So im thinking at MDF boot carpet won't be so good, and its pretty tricky getting a good fit, and fitting it... Ive done it before and it was a MISSION.
Wood braces? metal?

Uh, the back seat usually seperates the box from the driver's head. Or you could bolt it down.

Nooooooooo??? I think your dangerously mistaken? Haven't u seen any of thoughs tests on tv? THey had a tool box, largish, full of tools. Crash. Tool box went THROUGH the back seat, into the front passengers seat causing severe damage. Screw driver embedded in driver head rest. I have Split rear seats anyway, but the catch on which they secure into interior is either metal housed and plastic or visa versa..
I need a quick release

Actually my enclosure would never make it into the cab of the vehicle through the seat. It would have to rip throught the strut tower bar, bolts, metal behind the seats/shock tower, and then make through the seat.

All i wanted was some info. I didn't need to know that about ya car. Bravo, u have a setup so your strut tower is in the way. However on my car (a Pugeot 306) theres none of that! But it has the versatility to fold the seats down to allow larger things to be placed in the boot.
Im telling you, the sub and enclosure, folds/breaks the seats down on there pivots by sheer force.

I have used L Brackets on regular MDF enclosures to mount them to the floor.

I have a cargo net attached to the quarter panel over/around the box.  Will eventually bolt thru wheel well.

There was a famous actor in silent westerns, sort of John Wayne before movies had sound.  He was driving across Arizona with suitcases stacked in his convertable's rear seat, the highest at head level (no head rests back then).  Driving about 50mph, came over a hill to a rd closure, swerved into a ditch, top suitcase slammed into back of his head, crushed skull & splintered his spine.

The case was about 40# @ 50mph = over 2200# impact force according to this documentary.
