So, not knowing any car theives, How do they do it?

In the interest of building a security system that works a little, it would be helpfull to know the basic steps a pro would use to get your ride.

I'm thinking , of some diversionary wires and air horns instead of the cute little siren. Perhaps a flash bang wired under the dash?

Thanks in advance

Protect your battery at all costs & get a back up battery as well with an alarm system that is 2 way. All the bells and whistles do you no good if the battery wires are cut.

Good point, is it common for a pro to go to the trouble to disconect the battery, disable the alarm, then reconnect the battery to drive away?

If you want to protect the car and it's contents and have a chance of catching the theif you have to think that if the thief disables your system, they have all the time in the world to take what they want and also disable the steering lock and they can ( if they want to ) roll the car or place it on a tow truck and drive it away.

I guess that makes good sense.

I was thinking more allong the lines of trying to slow down someone in a hurry who would break glass, ignore the siren, cut some wires, jimmy the ignition and drive off.  Something a little unexpected that might take them a bit longer to work out, dummy relays, hidden switches, change some color codes etc.  Or by not advertising the fact that the vehicle is armed, I got to think that my air horns going off 2ft from some smuck in the middle of the night might get them to change their plan, or at least change their pants.

But then, why not do both

thanks for your time.

Back up siren, hide your main unit, more importantly the wirings as well. Don't do it in te open, make everything look stock. A hidden starter kill, dummy wiring/ headunit. And that airhorn cave me an idea, make it so when the alarm is set off a timer begins its run and just when the guy is in there like 20 15-20 seconds, make it go off and keep going. Oh ya get a 2-way that way you can stand behind them with a pipe/ gun when they decide to leave.

I'm loving the airhorn delay.  Any ideas how to wire the timer without getting on the terrorist watch list.

Use the DEI timer module for this.

Have your exsisting ignition harness become a fake harness. then rewire your key cylinder hidden in like the center consul or behind a fake panel on the dash, that way he couldn't jimmy the key cylinder. Just something i just thought of while reading and i might actually do it to my car.

maybe it is just me, but I have my alarmmostly as a deterrent. If someone wants the car that bad.... they can have it. That is what insurance is for.
Hopefully the starter kill, 2way, etc... will slow them down as I have an Autopage RS-720LCD, but i have the alarm as a deterrent and mostly for the features of RS, KE, etc...
I park in a garage at night and only arm the alarm at work and the mall. At work, my car is less than 50 feet away from my window.
