I just read a thread on Sounddomain where a guy putting in a RS in an 02 Camry fried the transponder amplifier by hooking the bypass up wrong.  $700 bill from the dealer to get the car back running.

The 555X is too expensive, and too time-consuming/risky to install.
On older Toyotas, it is soooo easy to just program your own aftermarket transponder key, and then install that in a regular bypass box.
Also, older Ford keys and older Toyota keys have the same type of chip inside, and can be interchanged. Used keys can be re-programmed to another car, too.

Interesting find here... I tried rewiring again tonight. Still no go. Then I noticed on the ignition switch harness that all the wires were labeled on the molex connector 02 Camry, Remote start - Page 2 - Last Post -- posted image.. They contradict the directwire color codes. The ignition harness has 1st and 2nd ignition reversed. Same with 1st and 2nd starter 02 Camry, Remote start - Page 2 - Last Post -- posted image..
I'll install using those wires tomorrow.

clsmith,
That shouldn't matter too much. Doesn't matter at all, really.
Depending on what brand of remote starter you have, both of the ignition outputs, and both of the starter outputs, should behave the exact same way.
Some units allow you to go into the programming menu and change the "Ignition 2" so that it will instead act like an accessory or starter output, but that is really the only difference.
-------------------------------------
Minor side note:
Also, the Ignition 1 wire needs to "see" power when the key is turned on-----this is how the unit goes into programming mode, when you cycle the key on and off at the right time.
For that reason, if you're ever installing into a car that only has a SINGLE ignition wire, you'll want to make sure you're using the Ignition 1 wire for that.

Yup, I can configure the IGN2 out put to be IGN2, ACC2 or Starter2.
In any case.. Working now 02 Camry, Remote start - Page 2 - Last Post -- posted image..
Thanks for all your help. It's great to have a place to turn to like this.
