Sorry Joe, I'm getting a bit confused (I'm a novice to mechanics). Are you saying just connect to the main HT lead coming from coil to the centre of the distributor cap? or some other wire

you will not beable to connect to the main silicone ht lead, it will be the neg wire on the coil, this is the trigger pulse wire that turns the coil on and off, get your connection there.
i am also a technician so if you have any engine trouble let me know, and i will do my best to help.
