when i used to install my friend had this Big Bluepoint iron that would heat up in 1.5seconds, I used to solder 4 awg w/ it nicely but I don't remember what the name of this solder iron was and I can't find it, does cornwell make one as nice?

I think the one you're talking about is from Snap-on.

ya it is, but my last snap on dealer last year didnt have the bluepoint one, and i dont see a snap on dealer around here

The cornwell equivalant sucks imo. I have both irons the blue point is the only way to go.

Most Blue Point soldering irons are rebranded Wellers. Which one you looking for?

My guess is the butane one. I have two of them and they work great until the tips wear out.

Blue Point Model #YAS32 Cheaper to buy online as well, I however wouldn't bother getting the kit (I never use the extra tips).

Replacement tips are 12 bucks each.

Also remember to use only good filtered butane. I recommend and only use Ronson.

Agreed, I have gone through 2 butane irons so far in the last year and about 4 tips. The only problem with these are the flint in the ignitoer end up going and you can't light the iron anymore.

actually, the one i'm looking for is a wired one, i have a butane powerprobe which is decent for portability but i want the big one for everything heavy duty, the one im looking for looks like this:

except it had dual heat, not just a single point coming out, so the body looks like that, it was heavy

this is the dual heat tip it had

but the body seemed larger on the one i used to use, plus it had a nice built in spotlight that was real handy when soldering in tight places

I like the Snap-On solder irons, but my Weller that I bought from Sears works pretty good too.
