Has anyone had any experience with the JL Audio stealthboxes? Are they worth the money...going from dual 12's to a single 10 is hard to accept for a space problem in my explorer.

I have had good success with them. They sound great, the build quality is above average, a little pricy but worth it.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I have a 4.5 cu ft box in the back of my explorer housing 2 12' subs running at 600w each. I need to reduce the amount of space they take up and I am considering either building a fiberglass box for the 12's or getting one of these stealth boxes.
Do you know anything about fiberglassing?

If you haven't ever fiberglassed before and don't really plan on taking benefit from teh learning experience it isn't really worth it man. Just go with a custom fab box from JL and call it quits. But if you have a desire to learn, start small with fiberglass. There is even a forum here to help with fiberglassing.

the reason I asked about the fiberglass is I have done a box before made of fiberglass. I am curious if I could build a similar box to the JL box out of fiberglass mounted in the same spot.

You probably could make an enclosure to fit where the stealthbox goes but I am willing to bet by the time your done with time, money and quality of the job the stealthbox is probably a better bet. I have installed a couple of these and they fit really well and sound great. just my .02.

do they hit that hard? I mean for being a small box I dont expect them to pound like a simple 12" box.

I had one in my explorer and I thought it  was great considering I gave up no space at all. I think  buying either anMTX thunderform or a JL Audio stealthbox is your best bet. Good Luck.

thanks everyone for the responses I appreciate the input, I 'm still not sure I want to lose all my bass just for some space in the back.

I guess the 12's are in a ported box now, looking at the size box they are in. Have you thought about putting them in a sealed box? Or are they only for ported box's? I have 2 15's in my Supra in a smaller box than you have your 12's in. Just  a thought.
