hmm. Tried to post this a while ago, but haven't seen it pop up yet, so let me try again.
did the tach learn. LED on brain flickered when 'learniing' every second or so. Tried rs, no luck, same results, plus noted after a short pause after the failure, the LED flashes 5x, pauses then 5x, etc.
mean anything?

Without having any direct experience with the astrostart we can only hope that the 5 x led flashes is a diagnostic notification that can guide you to a solution.

Someone with access the install manual can help with that in a future reply.

My fingers are crossed for you that the unit isn't damaged.

Best of luck with the outcome and keep us posted.

5 pauses means the hood pin is grounded... red and black wire... disconnect it from the pin or cut it... no ground then the rs should start...

Amazing..it's always the simplest thing.

Thought you checked that already?  LOL

Anyhow, let us know if that was it.

Once again my fingers are crossed for you.

Whew! well, got more info, not good info, but info.
Turns out the switch under the hood I was checking before was the factory alarm switch. The car starter switch was never installed. That BLACK/ red wire was already cut in the taped harness under the dash. So no switch, and still 5 flashes.
Additional info. Looks like the guy installed a trunk release relay on the other output (green wire from opposite side of unit). That wire never goes low (grounds) to trip the relay to open the trunk either. When we push the 2 lock buttons together to do the trunk relay, the brain clicks, but no grounding of the green wire for trunk relay (measured with ohmmeter). i also tested the relay by grounding the relay manually.
Don't know if this additional info is helpful, but figured I'd add it.

Pushing lock and unlock at the SAME time triggers "car finder"

Try reprogramming your hood pin

normally open......   dip#2, and 9 UP hit the brake, put the dips DOWN...hit the brake

normally closed........dip # 2 up hi the brake put the dop down, hit the brake
