has anyone installed an astrostart on a 03 volvo s60? Heard stories of airbag light coming on, and that the car was generally a pain. I have a copy of the astrochart wiring chart in front of me and wanted to clarify what "open" means, the rear defogger has "neg 8 min", so is that the preprogrammed runtime after a negative pulse. Any tips or things to watch would be appreciated.

No to the first question, at least not in recent memory. To answer the 2nd question I need to know in what context is the word "open" used for.  3rd question the answer is "yes". The defog is preprogrammed to shut down after a specific time or if the ignition is turned off, then back on again.

Other then that I can see no reason for airbag light issues unless you unplug the wrong harness and turn the key on. Also if any second/third ignitions need to be energized, make sure you do so. Many times I have seen a remote start function properly without all the ignitions hooked up (basically the ign system only/coil(s) needs 12v for the engine to run), but can cause issues with other sytems in the vehicle.

"open" means to break the wire, cut it in half  WHILE remote started using a relay, pins 30 and 87a. triggered to an empty 87.

The rear defrost is triggered by one of the 4 programanble outputs as AUX with an 8 min. duration.  Even if you have your remote start programmed to run for a longer time, the aux will ru for the programmed time only.

yeah I should have figured that what "open"meant but the question seemed to team it with the defog so I wasn't really sure of it's context.

I looked at the astrochart. He was refering to the door pin wires being "open" Just like the Fords. I believe they are ground while the door is closed, and "nothing" when the door is opened.??? I can't remeberastrostart in 2003 volvo s60 -- posted image.

It depends where you grab the domelight wire. On most older fords (unlike GM and imports) the wire would show negative when door is closed, positive when door is open. Now with GEM's and whatever the manufacturers can add to over-engineer a simple light bulb coming on with the door you don't really know vehicle to vehicle, year to year what to expect, however I can't imagine an open circuit turning a light on, perhaps when off if it was diode/relay isolated but I guess it would depend on if there were any other circuit/ modules down the line between where you tapped in and the bulb itself.

However I have not seen this personally, kinda strange but it is a Volvo so who knows?

But in that context I would assume thats what "open" refers to and a meter would need to display this for verification.

Thanks for the info. I'm still pretty new to the remote starter world. Sorry if this sounds dumb but can you explain how you would go about hooking up the door pins. This is so the remote will show when the doors are open. I'm drawing a blank on how to hook up the relay between the unit and door pins, or should I just use the dome light as a trigger? And reverse polarity for the trunk release, can you explain? KarTuneMan have you ever run into any major problems with Volvo's? Once again thanks for all the help fellas.

a little off the original topic here, the other day I was installing a 4204 in a '06 Titan, I was trying to test the switch side of the brake light with my DMM and kept blowing the fuse. Just wondering if you have ever run into that before? Testing the hot side, no problem, testing the swicth side, blew the fuse twice in a rowastrostart in 2003 volvo s60 -- posted image.

Volvo's are like BMW's, and Audi's and most of the "over there" produced cars.......they suck. Over engineered and the like. Me, I avoid them like the palgue.

I am NO HELP here......other than the workings of the astro product.astrostart in 2003 volvo s60 -- posted image.

OK, in order to show the doors on the fob on the 4204 which pin on the relay would you use for the door trigger input for the brain
