Hi
I was wondering if there are any known problems or extra costs involved with the installation of the new Viper 5900 SST into an `05 GrandAm?
I just wanted to get some input before I spend $275, even though it retails for over $600.
I assume its a pretty basic installation, but do I have to butcher up wire my wire harness or buy plugs?
Sorry I do not know much about alarms, but I am an accomplished mechanic on both cars and motorcycles.
Thanks.

yes you are going to have to cut your wires especially for the remote start. It souldnt be that hard, just take your time, and read/study up on what needs to be done before you actally start anything.

Not a hard car to do, but you will need a few things. First, a passlock2 bypass, like the 457G. Also, the locks are a one wire system so you will either need to use a set of relays and resistors or get an interface, like the 456L.

As far as ignition bypasses go you can use a gmdl-bp in which it will bypass passlock II and if you have fact. keyless entry it will do doorlocks and trunk release.

Cool, thanks guys.
I see this place is like a whole different world.
I am going to get all alarm happy now, maybe install an alarm on my ninja...
Guess i better start shopping for the relays etc.
is $259.00 a good deal for that system?
it is on eBay and i am just wondering how they can sell it so cheap, or is most of the $650 MSRP for installation ?

Those wires from the satellite relay are pretty thick, are you guys tapping into the power from consant 12+ or the battery? Also for the parking light and headlight output, is there a need for a relay ?

1. No need to go to the battery. The constant wires at the ignition switch are plenty strong.
2. Parking light output shouldn't need any relay. Easiest place for parking lights in that car is positive trigger, brown, at the back of the radio----you'll already be there, since you'll be pulling the radio to get to the ignition wires.
3. No idea about the headlight output.
4. I'm also a big fan ov the GM-DLBP. It costs more than just a regular Passlock bypass, but it'll save you time on the locks and trunk.

It's me again...
I started the install and I cant find any reference in the book as to where to hook the (ground when running) wire from the bypass kit, it says to use with remote start installs.
Should I hook it to the factory disarm wire on the viper, it says it pulse's twice to ground?
Also, on the wire harness for the bypass kit there is a three wire plug that comes off the main harness, where does that go?
The damn bypass kit came with a one page universal instructions with all sorts of footnotes and stuff.
The viper instructions are not much better.

OK
I know this prolly gets old for you alarm installer veterans.
`05 Grand Am Viper 5900SST
The Viper door lock harness says
Green (-) lock (+) unlock
Blue (+) unlock (-) lock
is that telling me both wires do exactly the same thing?
or is it telling me the module and the alarm dont work well together.
My bypass module has inputs for (-) lock and (-) unlock

Either you maid a typo or the Viper install guide did. It should be:
Green (-) lock or (+) unlock
Blue (-) unlock or (+) lock
You can ignore the (+), so you will get:
Green (-) lock
Blue (-) unlock
Your alarm and bypass module will work fine together.
