im looking at getting a new cd player and right now i have my eye on a kenwood kdc-x990 and a eclipse cd5000. i think that the eclipse cd player is a little bit better of a cd player but im not sure if it is really worth the extra money?  any other sugjestions?

ok but i have read on here before that with the eclipses 8 volt preout that it can damage my amp, is this true or not?  the 5000 is gonna be powering 2 ma audio hk401sx amps

11 years retailing Eclipse, not one cd player has ever damaged an amplifier due to the preout voltage.

And NO... no preamp output could EVER damage the preamp inputs on an amplifier. SPEAKER outputs could, conceivably damage the RCA inputs on an amplifier, but never an RCA to RCA connection.
I also am in agreement (agreeance? what cd player - Last Post -- posted image.) with Rob. The Eclipse will blow the Kenwood out of the water in regards to sound quality...

And what about the Alpine VS Eclipse ?

The problem with alpine is the PRE OUT..low voltage... but what about the sound quality and the other spec?

I think Eclipse only has SIRIUS Ready ? I have XM! :(

Eclipse and if your sat radio unit is a standalone, then fire it into the aux input.
