If you wired two 4 ohm woofers in parallel, and bridged the amp, you are running 1 ohm per channel. Sony Xplod amps aren't renowned for thier quality, so MY guess is it's blown.
NOT a 1200 watt amp, not even REMOTELY, I expect it's more like 300 to 400 watts, in "quality amplifier world", it should have been able to power those woofers all day long, as long as the gains were set properly.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

how would i go about checking the rca cables??

Plug in a new RCA cable from an outside source, such as another CD player. My guess is that the low resistance along with (I'm assuming) the gain cranked all the way up to compensate for the low wattage was a little more than that Sony could handle.
