hello all.  i have a 95 explorer and need the wiring diagram for the cd changer.  i've tried tons of searching and posting in an explorer's forum, but still can't find it.  the changer is a CLARION F57F-18C849-DC.

the reason i need it is because i want to hook up an i-pod to the changer's output.  i'm going to put an 80 minute silent cd in the changer to trick the radio into thinking the cd is playing.  there was an exact how-to at  http://www.ipodincar.net/guideExplorer.php but the page is gone now.

thank you all for helping

I am unsure why you are intent upon keeping the changer, as there a number of after market adapter pieces that will work with your car. Peripheral, usa spec, soundgate and others make ipod solutions for your car.

Radio Shack sells an amplified speaker for 15 dollars. You will also need to buy an 1/8 inch mono plug and solder wires to it for the input. Take your changer apart enough to get to the connections of the socket where the plug from your radio plugs into it. With the plug you made up, ground the ground wire to the chassis of the changer then with a cd playing and the volume up slightly on the amplified speaker begin probing the connections with the signal wire of the amplified speaker there will be 2 connections that have audio one will be left and the other right.   Good Luck I check here daily if you have any other questions.

that sounds great, i'm definately capable of doing that...  once i find the left and right, what would i connect for the negative part of the ipot cable output?  i.e.  i'm thinking i want to find L+ and L-, and R+ and R-  ((i'm using a 1/8 inch audio jack to RCA cable, i was going to splice the RCA ends hence the + and - on L and R))...  what i believe you're saying is i'd find only L+ and R+...  correct?

*thanks for the reply

Chances are the negative for the audio is connected directly to ground. You will need to connect the shield of your adapter to ground and then the center conductors to the signal wires you find with the speaker.

that makes sence...  i've been poking around doing a whole lot of guessing and testing with negatives and it seems as if that's the correct way.  it's been 2 1/2 hours doing this and i'm getting tired so tomorow i'll finish up everything hopefully.  i can't get my silent cd to play in the changer thou, so that's a set back.  i think it's my burner b/c i have 60 minutes of silence (it works, i tried it in itunes and winamp) but the changer doesn't like it.  i'll also do a brief write-up on this mod when i'm done for the rest of the community.

stay tuned...

Once you figure out which wire is signal, you can cut it and use a switch to switch between changer and I-Pod the silent CD is really not necessary.
