hmm.. im not sure about going with a three way design up front... yet.  mainly because i would have a hard time trying to figure out where to put the extra driver.   my car has a spot for a tweeter in the a pillar, and a woofer in the door. without making some sort of fiberglass housing to put an extra midrange up in the pillar, i wouldnt know where to place it. (and i have no experiance with fiberglass so i would probably screw it all up!)

does anyone know of a website, book, etc that could explain how to make a good 3rd order crossover?

It sounds to me like you are really aiming squarely at an SQ system. If, indeed you are, FORGET THE A-PILLAR!!!
Your woofer and tweeter need to be MUCH closer than that... Too difficult to integrate them correctly when that far apart. Chances are WAY better than even that you'll NEVER get them properly integrated - the house is gonna win this one, pretty much guaranteed. IF you are bent on using the A-pillar, go three way, and then put a mid in or on the door, closer to the tweeter, but between the tweeter and the woofer.
No, really. It'll be worth it!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Here's a few resources that might help you.

And my favorite, the Passive Crossover Designer (you will need to run Microsoft Excel to use these tools.)

If I could fit 7" Scan Speak Revelators in my Accord stock location I would. But mounting depth is an issue. I heard the Revelators and they sound awesome. Great mid bass and I probably will pick up some 8" Revelators and go 4-way active in the future.
