Thank you, thank you, thank you, Moonliter.  It worked on one of the fobs.  I tried the same thing on the second fob and it didn't work, and the lights didn't even flash when I tried start after the fix.  It will still lock and unlock the doors and open the trunk, so I do know the battery wasn't put in backwards by the child in the Source store.  I'm really happy to have one working thanks to you, but it's become a bit of an obsession.  Any other ideas?  Perhaps I should do a little autopsy and try and make the innards of the non-functioning one look like the working one.  We'll see how brave I get.

The locks are working, that means the battery is good. Most likely the start button had worn out. In this case, it is the membrance which is made of some sort of conductive meterial which touches the printed circuit. You can take it apart and clean it but i doubt it will work.

I took it apart, cleaned it with a Qtip, and believe it or not it came back to life.  They both work now!  Thanks so much.
