I removed the Factory stereo on a 1999 Cadillac Catera  and replaced it with a Kenwood stereo and the check engine light came on.. Have anyone experienced this problem yet?  I looked at the Wire harness and it seem to have more wires then  its suppose to .. I am not sure if the factory stereo is intergrated with the computer system of the vehicle anyway.. If anyone have any advice on this please reply or give me an email  tuandang@aol.com

ps:  the customer had thrown the factory stereo away so no i cannot plug it back in to troubleshoot. if its the factory stereo or not..

Thanks

You need to relocate the radio in that vehicle to keep the car's computer happy, but since it is in the trash, you are out of luck on that one. Better find another stock radio for it.

Is he having driveability issues? He might of disconnected the battery while connecting the radio. if He did, he might need to reprogram the electronic throttle control. i can post how if you need me to. I don't think the radio is intergrated with the pcm. never seen a stock radio that is.

This is a class 2 data vehicle, (sometimes mistakingly called RDS). Yes you will have to relocate the factory radio manually as no one makes a data retention harness for this vehicle yet.

Wow! Which company makes a harness with those ends on them? I have never seen one. Are you aware that harness has different ends than the standard GM's which most manufactuers have relocation harness' for?

im pretty sure circuit city sells them for around $60. not the relocation harness, but a "box" that mimics the factory radio circuitry

That would be a Metra GMRC-01 and that will not work on the Caddies because they have a different plug and use different "retention" software. The relocation they sell will also not work as it has different plugs also.
