Hi my friend has a 99 Nissan Maxima and he wants to get 2 Kicker 15" L7 Solo-Barics for his car.  I'm thinking that the Kicker KX1200.1 is sufficient to power these.  I want to know how I should wire the subs for the most power without screwing up the amp.  Also what gauge wiring should I use for this setup?  Is 4ga good enough?

The amp has                                                                                                  The L7s have

300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms                                                                      power range 75-1,000 watts RMS

600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms                                                                      (500 watts per coil)

1200 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm ---preferably (is it okay to use?)             peak power handling 2,000 watts

Which ohms should I use for these speakers.  Can I use 1 ohm?  If so, how do I wire the subs?  Also, I'm thinking I should use a capacitor for this setup...should I?  I've done a few installs, nothing major like this though.  I would be saving my friend $600 if I install it, because he's gonna buy the stuff cheap, instead of paying $1400 for everything installed.  I need as much advice as I can get, thanks.

I would find some thing more powerful. Or use 2 KX1200.1 But to hook up the setup you have listed above you will want to get the 4ohm DVC model subs and wire them in parallel (2nd diagram down here) http://www.audiobahninc.com/tech/wiring/parallel_parallel_dual_4.pdf That will give you a 1ohm load and you would get the max power out of that set up. If you were to get 2 KX1200.1 (which would be my suggestion) you will want to get the 2 ohm DVC subs and wire each one to its own amp using the 1st diagram above.  As far as the cable size is depends on what setup he uses? Also how much is he looking to spend on the amp(s)?

he just wants to use that one amp...how much power will it produce to each sub if he uses the KX1200.1?  You said something more powerful to use, what is more powerful, he just wants one amp powering the two 15s (in my opinion he's crazy for even doing this, but w/e, he'll learn) kicker 15 install -- posted image.

say i want to stick with the one KX1200.1, get the two 4ohm DVC models and wire them in parallel to get that 1 ohm load.  Am I gonna be getting 1200 watts to each sub or 600 to each making it combined 1200?  Would the 1 ohm setup be okay?

The KX1200.1 and the (2) L7's  (4ohm) wired in parallel will present the amp with a 1 ohm load putting out 1200 watts total 600 to each sub. Now these subs won’t sound bad at 600 watts but to bring out there true beauty and potential I would run 1000 rms to each. As far as other suggestions I would need to know his price range. But for around $275 per amp he could get some JBL 1200.1’s http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/JBLBP12001   which put out 1200 watts @ both 1and 2 ohms.  Which is probably about $100 more then he is paying now and those amps will do those subs some justice. If he really has some money to spend I would suggest a MMATS DHCx2000.1 http://www.mmatsproaudio.com/classd.php

ok, scratch the whole idea of the 2 15s, he wants to get two 12s with as much power going to them as possible with a $1600 budget.  Any ideas?  What amp would you recommend and subs?  How are we going to wire them?

If he has $1600 he can get something allot better than that kicker set up, I would suggest  you look into Diamond Audio or Eclipse if you have a budget that high http://www.diamondaudio.com Eclipse http://www.eclipse-web.com

he's now obsessed with Alphasonik because they "look beautiful"...what do you guys think.  http://www.alphasonik.com/frameset.html  He wants the 12s PSW812 and PMA1000HC @ 1 ohm 1500watts x 2 what do you guys think, ever hear of this company?  He can get the amp, the 2 12s, the box, the cap, and install for $1600...is that good?

I have never heard any of the stuff bearing their name but they are owned by the same people as Audiobahn  http://www.audiobahninc.com they even use the same mailing address  ( I have been there many times) and have the same specs as  Audiobahn's equipment . I have used top of the line Audiobahn equipment and would never waste my money it again and I would not suggest he wastes his money either. He is better off getting top quality equipment for the amount of money he is going to spend. Both Diamond and Eclipse are among the best manufactures in the car audio world, and I have used both products and can tell you that they are worth every penny. But to tell you the truth when it comes to car audio looks are very deceiving. Most of the top manufactures equipment looks like crap. If you picked it up and did not know what it was you would think it was garbage. It’s all marketing, people see something that has nice esthetics and think it must be good and they buy it, but in reality it could be the worst equipment on the market.  All they know is it looks good so it must sound good trust me that’s a costly mistake; I have seen it way too many times.
