Ok, me and a friend was to makr a body kit for his car. They dont make one for his year car anymore so were going to attempt to custom make it. I know alot about fiberglassing, I've just only attempted a bodykit once before and it was on an old Saturn SL1 and didn't come out that great so I just want some opionions about how to go about making the initial mold for the kit. Any suggestions or tips would be helpful.
Oh, and I was looking on selectproducts.com and saw this wonder foam stuff, is that for molding? Anyway, any info would be great. Peace

that is what the foam is for. but if i remember correctly, it comes in small blocks.
you can go and get floral foam to do the same thing.
if you want to spend the money, you can get foam sheets and carrve them in the shape you want. or you can get 2 part foam and make itno sheets then carve it out.

im molding a body kit for my neon. i find that filling a gap with great stuff works good. youll have to get creative if you have voids in the kit where it doesnt match up at all. youll do a great job if you got patience.
always looking for new info and willing to give it

ok i'v been trhough this...

to create ur body kit out of a mold.. find any foam that wont shrink when heat is applies. [Resin + Hardner = HEAT!!]

to physicaly mold the kit to ur care i.e [fender to bumper]  [ rear bumper to rear quarter]

simple steps...

METAL IS UR BEST FRIEND...

Fiber glasss loves metal..  and vise versa

if u want ur rear bumper molded on..  simply take a peice of metal thin strip ..  screw/rivit it to the top of ur bumpper..   then grind the rivets/screws down..   weld the strip that is now attached to ur bumper to ur rear end of ur car..  grind then fiberglass matt///  then bondo..

if u want to attach two fiberglass items to gether..  strongest method..  is to rivit a peice of metal that conects both fiberglass peices together..  then support the metal with fiberglass on the inside (not exterior) then fiberglass on the exterior after that..  sand down and body fill...

For side skirts to quarter should just be a small amount of fiberglass matt..

 -enjoy..

BTW!!!!

PUTTIES / BONDO

is NOT ur best friend..

ANYHING thing molded with MORE THAN a quarter 1/4" [even a 1/4" is to much] of bondo will crack if it is molded..

unless u don't drive the car :-)
