I've got a generic amp that pushes 1000 watts at 4 ohms by 1 (bridged mode) or 500 watts at 2 ohms by 2 (stereo stable).... I've been looking into gettin 2 Kicker CVR15's... and they're rated at 500 watts RMS.. and it also says that the RMS rating is based on a 4 ohm load... but they are able to handle 2 ohms.. and I'm wondering if it'd be too much to push 500 watts at 2 ohms to 2 subs??? I was also looking at the frequency response, and the amp fits right inside the response range for the subs.... so besides the power problem, I think it'll work good... thanks

Well to get each down to two ohms, they would have to have dual 4 ohm voice coils.  That is unless they use a single 2 ohm voice coil, which is very unlikely.

But if in fact the amp produces that much power, then you shouldn't have a problem.  That is as long as your gains are set right, and your enclosure isn't too large.  After all, power handling and efficiency are more a function of the enclosure than the driver.

Ya, the 2 CVR15s have dual 4 ohm coils... and the amp is a Legacy LA770.... at 2 ohms, what would the RMS be for the CVR15's?? Because if the RMS goes up, I might drop down to CVR12's instead of 15's... the CVR12s RMS is 400, so would the same amp be able to power the 12's at 2 ohms with out having to worry about blowing them??? thanks

Oh and about the enclosure, I'm gonna put them in a bandpass box.. and if its too big for my echo, then I'll probably put them in a sealed box (dont know what kind)...

Throw the power spec of that amp out the window, is that a 20 amp fuse I saw in that amplifier? What size is the fuse?

Your looking at a pretty small amount of output for that amp then. One of my kicker amps has two 40 amp fuses and I get roughly 400 watts out of it. My opinion is that Legacy is not the amp to go with. Especially if you want to get the most out of your subs.

Yup, that amp is closer to 50w rms per channel and 200w rms x 1. It is waaaaaay to small to properly power your subs. Wrong amp + right subs + right box = sss = buying new subs and new amp. Ya that amp wont push anymore than 280 watts peak! at 100 percent efficiency.   So lets call it a very capable product that is basically only able to drive a blender Powering 2 Kicker CVR15's? -- posted image..      Now you can make sum drinks, lol

But in all seriousness, before you spend all that money on those subs, and realize that you amp dosen't tickle them, you should send that thing back to e-bay, and pick up a real amp, it may cost more, but at least you will get what you wanted.
