Ok today I noticed that my orignal 4awg crimp on my power connector to my wifes brutus was starting to get loose, even though I used a hefty hammer on the orignal install to crimp it

So how do I now make the crimp more secure, I cant take the wire out of the car to put a new connector on it, Im not spending 200 bucks on a 4awg crimper, so what are my options?

Should I get a inexpensive solder iron and rely on the solder to hold it and handle the power?

Can I use a C-Clamp to crush it down?
Other Suggestions?

Thanks All

Cram the wires together, use a torch to heat them up then cram about a foot of solder in there and you'll be set.

perhaps you could even take it to an install bay and get them to do it with the correct crimpers, which apply several tons of pressure and then fill it with a LOT of solder. The cheap handheld ones aren't that great. You need several tons do to it properly.

I thought of that but to 2 closest shops dont crimp or solder connections that big, they do the same as me just pound the hell out of it with a sledgehammer

Im going to home depot to pick up a torch and to radioshack to get some solder, that should take care of the problem

If you've ever seen my posts about using bolt cutters....

What you need is leverage, and bolt cutters will do just that.  If the cutter is old and worn out all the better.  I wouldn't attempt to solder without crimping first because you won't get a good electrical connection.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Vice grips. Just keep tightening them until you can't crimp any further. Then solder. You could also use regular crimpers, but you run the risk of breaking them. I know from experience, damn fng's kept using my tools to crimp 4/2 gauge connectors with my snap on crimpers and breaking them(worse thing about it was the fact we had large gauge crimpers).

the klein ones are a "amtkl1006" 17.89 from AM distributors (tax id needed) they will do a pretty good job, like i said they aren't ment specifically for 4 ga, but they do it good with a little bit of effort, then you just solder a bit and it's perfect
