viper 5101 on 2002 toyota tacoma

Hey all, Looking for a little help wiring this keyless/Rs unit up in this new to me truck. The truck came with an old Audiovox (from what I can tell) alarm and immobilizer installed and of course no remotes, so anytime I work on the truck it goes into alarm mode and is inoperable. I've decided to replace the old system with a Viper 5101 Keyless entry and remote start system but was hoping someone with access to directechs.com could help me with the pinnout's and locations around the truck. Any help is more than appreciated, I don't really want to jump into this blind if at all possible. Thanks! Patrick

Directechs is hard to get into. techservices.audiovox.com you can sign up for an account there all by yourself. www.bulldogsecurity.com has some information as well. The Audiovox system that's installed should already give you a head start. Of course you always want to test all wires, but, follow the harness from the Audiovox to where it connects to the car and you should find this: small red: lock small green: unlock red: constant yellow: ignition black: ground brown: door trigger white: parking lights

Okay, I've manages to install the system (6 hours of banging my head wondering why i didnt just get someone to do it for me) and it seems to work except for the remote start. I've got it so that it honks and flashes the lights when you lock/unlock the doors however when trying to remote start the vehicle it gives me 7 light flashes which means something along the lines of "manual transmission mode is enabled and not initialized" so i read up in the manual how to initialize manual transmission start mode and it says: with the vehicle running, shift the transmission into neutral, step on the brake, apply the parking brake. Using the remote control activate the remote start withing 15 seconds, the park lites will flash 5 times to confirm. turn off the ignition (car will continue to run), exit the vehicle, car will shutdown upon locking the door. well thats fine and well, but my remote dosnt seem to work at all when the vehicle is running, i dont hear any relay's click, i dont see any led flash's nothing... Anyone have any idea's?? Im running out of steam trying to troubleshoot this thing! Thanks Patrick

Is the truck an automatic or manual? If it's an automatic, you'll want to ignore all of that paragraph, and simply enter programming and set the unit to auto-transmission mode. If it is a manual transmission, either one of the safety inputs (brake, parking brake, neutral safety, hoodpin, on/off control switch) is not correct, or, the produre to put the unit in "reservation" mode is not being followed correctly. I've never installed a DEI unit in a manual transmission cars, but the other brands I've used (Ultra and Compustar) have you step on foot brake, apply parking brake, release foot brake. Read through the DEI's manual as carefully as possible (maybe even the owner's manual instead of install manual)....I feel pretty sure you have to release the foot brake before engaging the unit.

The truck is a manual, I had forgotten to install the on/off control switch (not that it changed the situation at all)... does it help to know that even the lock/unlock function doesn't work when the vehicle is running?? I'll double check all the safety inputs in the morning, but as of this afternoon I was sure they were all functioning correctly... As far as the clutch bypass for starting I used a "grounded when active" conductor to the output of the clutch switch to make the truck think it was depressed and allow it to start... However none of this really matters as im still stuck at the part about enabling Manual Transmission Starting and waiting on getting the park lites to flash 5 times confirming that remote start is active... Neutral safety i believe has to be tied into the parking brake and you HAVE TO learn tach, and hook up door triggers. DId you do all of this?A DMM is a beautiful thing.

let just make sure I have a few things correct here: on the "RS In" 5 pin connector: Blk/Wht Wire - Neutral Safety Switch (-) Input - Connected to the Parking Brake switch, grounded out when engaged... Voilet/Wht - Tach Wire - Connected at Igniter (pass side inner fender) Brown - Brake Shut Down (+) Input - Connected to Brake switch @ pedal to +12v switched brake light lead. Gray - Hood Pin Switch NO/NC (-) Input - connected to hood pin switch, isolated when hood closed, grounded when hood open. Blue/White - 2nd Remote start status / Defogger - Not used Does this sound correct?! I believe it is... On the H3 Heavy Gauge 8 pin connector: Pin 2 - RED / Wht - 12v (+) Fused 30A Input (contact 87 of RS Flex Relay) Pin 5 - Red - 12v constant (+) Fused 30A Input (for ignition 1 relay) Pin 8 - RED / Blk - 12V (+) Fused 30A Input (for accessory and starter Relays I've connected all 3 of these leads to constant 12V power direct from the battery... This sounding okay?

All sounds ok but did you LEARN tach? Start the vehicle by key and hold the valet button on the antenna until the blue led lights up?A DMM is a beautiful thing.

I just read your message a few moments ago and ran outside to do that... I must have missed that step in the install manual! it works, it stays running as you exit the vehicle and is ready to start again once the doors lock. Thank you thank you! I will have to look at my clutch safety switch bypass as the ignition and such comes on when trying to remote start but no cranking, same as if you forget to push the clutch in... This forum is amazing, thanks everyone, you guys are great, I hope to learn alot more from you guys in the coming months! Patrick
