do anyone know how to program a new transponder-chip key on 2005 tacoma, without having the use of master key. Master key has been stolen.

the fortin bypass modules will program with the valet key as well.

as far as programming a new key, the dealer can do it without any problems

It won't work. They cannot program a chip key from a valet key, period. You must have a black head key to start with...

if you have a valet key but still have the silver metal tag with 5 digits, they can cut a new master key for you.

I may be wrong, but isn't the tag for the cut only? I don't think that has to do with the code...

from what i know, the metal tag is a verification number used to cut a new master key. They punch the number in their computer and the new immobilizer code is issued.

this is what i heard from the tech when i got another master key cut.

I talked to a buddy at a dealer i work with, he said on the Taco if you have zero master keys you need replace the immobilizer ECU at 350 bucks, then code two new keys as it has to see two master codes. He said not all Toyotas code the same way tho...

wow, good thing i havnt lost any more keys. just that one time. Its ridiculous what the keys go for!

what happened to  5 dollar keys ? now its 300+ Sure its to prevent theft, but the technology is just costly for replacement parts.

I hate this too. Gotta love GM coding, one key for 35 bucks and all you need is one other key to program the new one yourself. Drawback is a valet could make a copy. I think Ford does it best, all Fords are the same since 2003 and you need 2 to program but at least you can do it yourself...

mike, does that include aftermarket blank keys? or do you need a locksmith with a programmer?
